Description

A. I. ON AND J. 0. CRISS.
EATHER s APPLICATION FILED M 1 I922- Nov. 7, 1922.
entree STATES PATENT amen ASHER I. SUTTON AND JAMES OLTIS CRIBS, OI WEST MILFORD, VEST VIRGINIA.
WEATHER STOP.
Application filed March 11, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known. that we, Asmara I. SUT'roN and learns OLTIs Cniss, citizens of the United States, residing at West Milford, in the county of lilarrison State 0:15 ld est Virginia, have invented a new and useful "Weather Stop, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a weather stop designed primarily to prevent the flow of air under a door or the like.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple and eiiicient structure which can be applied readily to a door and held normally inactive except when the door is closed at which time the stop is shifted against the floor so as to completely shut ofi the flow of air under the door.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com-v b1nat1on and arrangement oi parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment out the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a door having the present improvements combined therewith.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 33, Figure 1.
Referring to the figures by characters Oil reference 1 designates a door to one face of which are secured plates 2 having guide sleeves 3 parallel with each other. Another plate 4 is secured to the door near the upper end thereof and has guide sleeves 5 in vertical alignment with one of the sleeves 3. A rod 6 is slidably mounted within the sleeves 5 and the sleeve 3 in alignment therewith and merges at its lower end into a cross rod 7 terminating in an upwardly extending finger 8 slidable within the other sleeve 8.
ScriaI No. 542,953.
A strip 9 of suitable material to constitute a spring 12 which bears on the lower sleeve Thus the upper end of" the rod 6 is normally projected above the top of the door 1.
Secured to the top of the door casing is a deflecting strip 13 adapted, when the door is closed, to be contacted with by the upper end of the rod 6 so as to thrust said rod downwardly against the action of spring 12. Thus the stop strip 9 is pressed. downwardly against the floor so as to seal the opening under the door. When the door is opened the rod 6 will pass from under the strip 13 and be automatically raised by the spring 12 so as to lift the strip 9 out of contact with the floor.
lVhat is claimed is The combination with a door, of a guide member secured thereto near its lower end, a guide member secured to the upper portion of the door and in alignment with the first mentioned guide member, a yieldingly supported rod slidable within the aligning guide members and vnormally projected above the door, said rod having a laterally extending portion adjacent the bottom oi the door and an upwardly extending linger at the free end of said portion another guide member secured to the lower portion otthe door, said linger being slidable within the last mentioned guide member, a stop strip secured to and movable with the laterally extending portion of the rod, and a deflecting strip fixedly mounted above the path of the door for engagement by the rod.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own, we have hereto afiixed our'signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses ALFRED Losn, WILLIAM LEE.
