SEWALL 1). SAMSON, OF WOBURN, AND GEORGE H. SMITH, OFWALTHAM, MASSA HUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEREOSCOPlC-PICTURE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,467, dated October 7, 1873; application filed May 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SEWALL D. SAMSON, of Woburn, and GEORGE E. SMITH, of Waltham, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table Caskets, of which the following is a Specification:
The nature of our invention consists in the new construction of a table-casket for holding stereoscopic pictures, 860., and will be best understood from inspection of the specification and drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of our invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same when closed. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the same when open.
The casket or box may be made of any de sired shape and style, or as shown in Fig. 1. The bottom A, top B, and ends 0 D of this casket are all fastened permanently together, so as to form a firm durable case, which may be made plain or ornamented, as desired. Within this case we place a revolving box, H K, divided into two compartments by the division I. The ends of this inner box are open, and
the sides H and K finished and ornamented. This inner box revolves on a central pivot, M, and is operated by the projecting end P of pivot M. The end P of the pivot M may be ornamented in any manner.
From the above it will be seen that when the casket is closed the inner box occupies the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that its contents are entirely protected from dust and exposure.
When we wish to get at the contents we have only to turn the knob P, which will cause the inner box to turn to the position shown in Fig. 3, thus exposing the open ends, so that the contents may be removed.
We claim as our invention- A holder for stereoscopic pictures consisting of the case A B O D, in combination with the revolving compartment H K and handle I, substantially as specified.
