To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that S'rnri-rnN VVARD SULLI- VAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion an: State of Indiana, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to overalls and more particularly -.to the apron or bib type of overalls.

The main object of my invention is to provide a pair of overalls with an apron or bib section which when folded inside the overalls, permits of the overalls being conveniently used as pants overalls.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be in part obvious and in part described as the specification is proceeded with.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention showing the bib or apron extended;

Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of the same;

Figure 3 is a perspective View of the invention showing the bib or apron folded inside of the pants;

Figure 4- is a section on the line -l-1- of Figure 1; and

Figure 5 is a detail of the bib or apron showing how the same is constructed and its parts connected together.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, 5 denotes a pair of overalls having the usual waist band or belt portion 6, rear pockets 7 and side or front pockets 8. The waist band is also provided with the usual front and rear suspender buttons 1% and 15 respectively.

Secured at its lower edge to the waist band 6 is a bib or apron 9 comprising two similar sections 10 and 11, These sections are permanently attached to the inside of the waist hand, one on each side of the fly 12 of the pants as by stitching 13. The section 10 of the bib or apron is provided with buttons 16 on its inner edge and the section 11 has correspondingly located button holes 17, for the obvious purpose of detachably connecting the adjacent edges of the sections, together to form the apron or bib. It will also be noted from an inspection of Figure 3 that the sections 10 and 11 are provided with button holes 18 and 19 respectively adjacent the lower ends of their outer edges for receiving the Suspender buttons 16 at the front of the waist band or belt portion 6. This button and button hole connection between the waist band and the bib or apron assists the rows of stitching 13, by reason of the fact that part of the upward pull or tension on the bib 9 is transferred from the'line of stitching to the said connection and then transferred to the waist band 6. This connection further assists in keeping the waist band 6 in rqpright condition at the front of the body. If the stitching l3 rips or breaks, the apron 9 will still be connected to the waist band 6.

By separating the bib 9 into sections 10 and 11 and detachably connecting them t0- gether the wearer has immediate, comfortable and easy access to certain parts of the body when the fly 12 is being used. and the bib 9.21s such is in its inoperative position as in Fig. 3. it will be noted in Fig. 1 that the point of separation between the sections 10 and 11 is in alignment with the fly 12, so that, when the bib 9 is in its inoperative position (Fig. 3) the point of separation between the said sections will be directly behind the fly 12. A still further object of said sectional. bib 9 is to allow the sections to be separately placed down and within the lower portion of the garment when on the wearers body thereby preventing a crowding of the material and uncomfortable action at the waist line when the garment is on the body and the wearer desires to use the garment only as a pair of trousers.

When. the apron or bib is in use, that is when the garment is used as a bib overall, the suspenders 21 are connected by the wearer in the usual way to the suspender buttons, both front and rear on the waist band 16, and the loops 22 secured to the front straps 23 of the suspenders are connected to the suspender buttons 21 on the bib or apron. lit will be noted from Figs. 1 and 2 that the front straps 23 are positioned behind the bib 9 and covered thereby, from the waist line up to the loops 22. It will thus be seen that the suspenders support both the body of the overalls and the bib or apron. If the wearer desires to dispense with the bib or apron,

unbutton the button holes 18 and 19 on the lower edge of the sections 10 and 11 of the bib from the suspender buttons 16 on the waist band. It will. also be noted. that by reason of the bib 9 being connected to the lower edge of the waist-band the tendency of the bib 9 to show above the top edge of the trousers when the bib as such is in its inoperative position is reduced to a minimum. and the thickness of the top edge of the trouser portion is not increased and unnecessary bulging at this point is avoided.

What I claim as my invention is:

A garment of the class described comprising atrouser portion having a waistband, an apron composed of two sections detachably connected together, stitches connecting the lower edges of said sections to the inner lower edge of said Waist-band, detachable means connecting said sections to said waist-band above the inner lower edges thereof, and suspenders having the rear end thereof connected to the trouser portion at the rear and the front ends thereof connected to said waist band at the front and means intermediate the front and rear ends thereof for connecting the said apron thereto.
