Be it known that I, BEAT Kul-INE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewistown, in the county'of Fergus and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Milk-Bottle Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bottle closures and more ]')articularly to a cap for milk bottles or jars and the primary object of the invention is the provision of `novel means-for permitting the convenient removal of the cap when so desired, without the aid of any its lower face substantially conical shaped and connected at its apex portion to the cap, said disc defining wide flaring iiexible finger gripping flanges, the' lower inclined faces of which permit the ready engagement thereof by the fingers.
A still further object of the invention is` the provision of a novel means for associating said pulling disc with a milk bottle cap and for forming the disc out of such material that can be readily grasped by the fingers of the user and which will not tear or become separated from the cap.
A still further object ofthe invention. is the provision of a novel means for facilitating the removal of a closure for milk bottle jars which is ofvsimple and durable construction and one which can be `associated with ordinary milk bottle caps and placed upon the market at areasonable cost.
With these and other objects in. view, the invention consists in the novel construction,

be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speci-v fication, in which drawings:

Referring to the drawings in detail7 wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter AA indicates a milk bottle cap and B, the novel device for permittingthe ready lifting of the cap from a milk bottle, which is .designated in the drawings by the letter C. The milk bottle C of course, forms no part of the invention and has merely beenshown for illustrating the use of the cap, and this bottle is provided with the usual restricted throat 8 in which the cap A is adapted to be placed.
- The cap A is constructed in the usual manner and formed of the usual material and consists of a disc or circular shaped body i0' formed of a pluralityof plies of rela-*i tively strong card boardor the like, suitably oiled or waxed to render the same impregnable to liquid.
The lifting or pulling knob or device B can be constructed of any preferred material and as shown in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings, it is contemplated of making the same of soft rubber so that the same may be readily lgrasped by the fingers.
In the form shownin Figures 2 and 3, the
lifting device .or knob B consists of an attaching base 15 and a pulling or finger ,gripping piece 20.
n The base 15 and the pulling or finger gripping. piece- 20 are. disposed m superposed relation and are integrally connected together and each of the same are of a substantially disc shaped formation with their meeting faces tapered to present a substantially conical configuration,
and the apen portions of the conical faces are connected together and this forms relatively wide fiaring flanges 21 which permit the gripping thereof by the fingers. The inclined'surface 22 of the top disc or pulling section 20 forms a guide for the fingers or finger nails so that a ready grip can be had on the same. The flaring flanges of the top disc or finger gripping section 2O forni flexible compressible tabs 22. 'lhe base section 15 is connected to the top l0 adjacent to one edge thereof in any preferred manner and it is desired that a suitable adhesive be used i therein` The notch is formed relatively shallow so that a portion of the base l5 will protrude out of the same and all ofthe finger grippiingk or top `disc section 20.
ln the form shown in Figures 3 and G of the drawings, the base section l5 is secured directly to the upper surface of the cap l0y and thus the necessity of cutting or notching the upper face of the cap is eliminated.
In the form shown in Figures 4 and 7 of the drawings,the pulling` portion which is designated by the numeral in these figures is connected directly to the cap which is designated by the numeral 30 in these figures.` The knob 25 is of course formed of the same material as the cap and the top ply of the cap 30 may have the projection 25 formed integral therewith and the periphery of this projection which is disc shaped in plan is undercut asv at 26 to provide the tapered flange 27. The lower face of the projection or knob 25 is also of a substantially conical shape and the apex portion of the lower conical face is integrally connected with the cap. By undercutting the section or knob 25, the flexible tapered flange is formed and it will be seen thaty this tapered surface forms a guide for the finger or finger nails.
In use of the improved invention, when it is desired to remove a cap from the bottle, it is merely necessary to grasp the outside of vthe top disc or pulling knob 2O or the knob 25 and give the same a pull, which will effectively lift the cap from the throat 8 of the bottle C. By this construction, the use of.
a. finger gripping disc associated therewith l having a lower conical face with the apex portion thereof connected with the disc, the lower conical face of said pulling disc providing flexible finger gripping flanges and guide surfaces for the fingers.

As a new article of manufacture` a. milk bottle closure comprising a sealing disc, a pulling knob associated with the disc formed of flexible material and including a disc shaped body having a lower inclined face connected at its central portion with the disc, defining annularI flexible flanges overhanging said sealing disc.
3. s anew article of manufacture, a bottle closure comprising a sealing disc, a. pulling knob associated with the disc adjacent to one edge thereof comprising a disc shaped body having the lower face thereof tapered and connected at its axial center with the disc, the tapered lower face defining annular overhanging flexible finger gripping flanges.

As a new article of manufacture, a bottle closure comprising` a sealing disc, means disposed adjacent to one edge of the disc for facilita-ting the removal. thereof from the bottle including an attaching base and a finger gripping disc,the attaching base being adapted to be connected directly with the sealing disc, the meeting faces of t-he attaching base and the pulling disc being conical shaped and integrally connected at their apex portions.y
5. .is a new article of manufacture. a milk bottle closure comprising a sealing disc, and a means for facilitating lthe removal of disc from a milk bottle including a disc. shaped attaching base for connection with the sealing disc adjacent to one edge thereof and a finger gripping disc. the said means for facilitating removal of the sealing cap from the bottle being` formed of relatively soft rubber, the attaching disc and the linger gripping disc having the meeting faces thereof conical shaped and integrally connected together at their apex portions, said conical face of said finger gripping disc defining a guide surface and overhanging flexible linger gripping flanges.
6. A jar closure comprising a sealing disc having its upper face adjacent to one edge thereof vprovided with a circular indentation, a device for facilitating the removal of the sealing disc from the bottle including a disc shaped attaching base fitted in said indentation and secured therein. a pulling disc, the meeting faces of the attaching disc and pulling disc being flared outwardly from th-eir axial center toward their outer edges, the discs being connected together att-heir axial centers.
