Description
Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
I N VEN TOR.
A TTORNEY.
PATENT OFFICE.
AGNES B KENDALL, 0E SMITH CENTER, KANSAS.
MILK-BOTTLE car.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pate t d A 22 1922 Application filed June 12, 1920. Serial No. 388,518.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Asuns B. KENDALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Smith Center, in the county of Smith and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Bottle Caps;,and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such v as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in milk bottle caps and has for its primary object the provision of a tongue forming a part ofthe cap and adapted to facilitate the removal of the cap from a bottle and which overlies the cap when not in use so as not to interfere with the application of the cap to a bottle or forming a tight seal therefor. v
Another object of this invention is the provision of a milk-bottle cap of the above stated character, which will be simple, durable, and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects 1n view as I will become more apparent as the descripmy invention and showing in dotted lines the tongue in a position to remove the cap,
Figure 2 is a side elevation illustrating the cap,
Figure 3 is a plan view of the same. Figure 4 is a plan view of the cap with the tongue extended.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates a bottle neck having the usual flange 2, to be engaged by a disk or closure element constructed from paper or any other material suitable for the purpose.
The disk 3 has formed integrally with one end a tongue 4, which is bent to overlie and rest upon the top face of the disk and is cemented or otherwise secured to said disk as lllustrated at 5 and has its free end disposed upwardly in an inclined plane to form a finger grip 6. The finger grip 6 is prefer" ably located centrally of the disk 3 so that a person can readily grip the same and on exerting a pull on the tongue, the same becomes disengaged with the top face of the disk and lifts one edge of the disk upwardly from the bottle neck permitting air to enter the bottle and allow the easy removal of the cap from the bottle.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my, invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is A. stopper of the class described having a d1sk,'a tongue integral therewith fastened securely against the exterior of the same from the margin to approximately the center thereof and having a free end movable relatively to the disk to either lie flat against .it or be raised to facilitate gripping, such construction enabling the stopper to be removed by force exerted. at approximately its center and the stopper to be rigidified from the periphery inwardly along a radial line so that in the act of removal, such disk will move'out of its retaining groove and follow such portion to thus function practically as a rigid extractor member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AGNES B. KENDALL.
