SOUND-REPROJDU'CING RECORD.
Application filed May 16, 1921. Serial No. 470,144.
To allwkommarycoacera:
Be it known that I, 'JOHN F. GULYBAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certainynew and useful Improvements in Sound-Reproducing Records, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is to provide a disk record for a sound reproducing or talking machine with means located centrally within or upon its plane surfaces, whereby the words of the song or 'musical composition of the record will be conveniently accessible to the user of the record. A further object of the invention is to utilize the central label onsthe disk record to providey a shallow pouch or pocket for a' movable score card or printed folder bearing the printed words of the song or the musical composition corresponding to the recorded matter upon the disk. In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is a face View of a portion of a disk sound reproducing record, and Fi 2 is a sectional view thereof on line 2-2 o Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional View on line 3-3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the inner side face of the round label which is adapted to be applied centrally of the disk to provide a pocket or pouch therein. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a printed folder which is adapted to ge linserted within the labeled pocket on the The invention comprises a disk record 2 which may be constructed in any suitable,
way according to known pra`ctices` and which is provided with a central round opening 3 and shallow round depressions centrally on opposite sides thereof. In the disk records on the market it is customary to aflix a thin paper label in the depressions Lon one or both sides of the disk, and these labelsbear the advertisement of the maker and also the title and a Ser. No. of the song or musical composition which the disk or record is adapted to reproduce when placed 'in a Sound reproducing machine. Instead of affixing the ordinary label as commonly practiced I utilize a round label 5 which is either embossed or folded on parallel lines to provide a central rectangular offset 6 and segmental gummed border sections 7, 8 and 9, so that this labell may be attached to the disk within its central side depressions with the round opening 10 in the label in register with the round opening 3 in the disk and with only three border sections of the label affixed.- thereto and leaving the central l0E- set portion 6 open at one end to receive a card or paper folder 1l. The free eXtremity of the pocket offset portion 6 of the label may be round or straight at its edge and it is sufliciently flexible to facilitate the introduction and removal of the card or folder 11, because the label and folder are relatively very thin. The outer face of the label will not project beyond the plane of the flat surface of the main body of the disk record, but an end portion of card or folder l1 extends slightly beyond the free end or flap of the label so that it may be grasped and withdrawn by finger engagement. The card or folder 11 is printed with the. words of the song or with the music which is adapted to be reproduced from the disk, and'the exposed end of the card or Afolder bears the same title and Serial No.- which is printed upon the label. Card or folder 11 is also provided with a central opening 12 which is adapted to register with the openings 10V and 3 when the card or folder is inserted within the pocket or pouch formed vby the label so that when the disk is in place. on the revolving shaft or spindle of the machine and is revolving it will be impossible for the card or folder to become displaced by centrifugal force.
The label may be constructed and formed in other ways than as shown and I do not wish to limit myself to the specific construction described and delineated but reserve to myself all changes and modifications which,
may fall within the scope of my invention and the terms of the claims herein.
What I claim is: Y
l. A sound-reproducing disk record having a pocket centrally thereof provided with a central opening and a lateral entrance. 2. A sound-reproducing disk record having a central opening and provided with a label affixed centrally at one side thereof and spaced apart from the body of said disk, said label having anr opening in register with the opening in the disk.
3. A sound-reproducing disk record hav A ing a folded label axed to its central por-4 v tion adapted to receive a removable member said disk to form a pocket for printed matter.
5. A sound reproducing disk record having a shallow central depression, and a member forming a pocket for printed matter secured Within said de ression and having its outer face substant1ally flush with thesurface of the disk. p
