Description

A'rus i WILLIAM L. DENIC, F ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ON-HALF T0 HAEGI) H. SIMMS, 0F ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
RECORD-CLEANER.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. DEMO, a
citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and Stateof New York., have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Record- Cleaners, of which the following is a speciof cleaning the surface of therecord during the rotation of the latter, an object of this invention'being to provide a construction which is simple in form and inexpensive to manufacture, and does not require any special'devices for mounting it in place. still further object of the invention is to provide a cleaner which will utilize the centering pin ofthe record as an anchor by which the cleaner will be held to clear the face of the record under the influence of the reproducer as the table and the record turn.
To these and otherends the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts all of which will be hereinafter de-v scribed, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a plan View of portions of a talking machine equipped with the present invention;
Fig. Z is a perspective View of the under side of the cleaner;
Fig. 3 is an edge view 'and Fig. 4 is a plan view of a modilication.
Referring more particularly to the draW- ings, l indicates a record supported on a centering pin 2 which projects from a rotary table 3. IVVth the record, the stylus or needle 4 of the reproducer 5 coperates, the latter being supported in any suitable manner. The foregoing parts are all now generally used in talking machines.
The improvement embodies a member 6 Which may be in the form of an elongated strip of thin sheet material, such as thin cardboard, Celluloid, or the like. This strip is provided at one end with one or more openings 7 situated at different distances from the end of the strip. These openings are adapted to receive the centeringy pin 2 Specification ofiIietters Patent. 'i Patenggd Rham, jij? 59,

of the record support' so that the strip may be held by the centering pin as the table turns to carry the record beneath the strip. The openings 7 are provided in order that the strip may be adapted to records of different diameters. Instead of a plurality of openings, slot 7 may be provided, as shown in Fig. 4. To the under side of the strip, a strip 8 of out-ing flannel or other brush material, preferably a textile material with a pile or nap, is secured preferably by an adhesive.
When the device is in position on the cen tering pin, the brush material rests on the record which, upon turning, swings the cleaner so that an edge ofthe latter abuts the stylus on the -side of the record in advance of the stylus,thus clearing the record of dust. Further` turning of the record maintains the cleaner against the stylus. The device is' very simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture. The uppermost advertising novelty is pro table with a record centering pin, a record on the table, and a reproducer coperating with the record; combined With a cleaner held by the centering pin arranged to engage the reproducer to operate over the face of the record as the latter turns with'the table.
