, Specification ofletters Patent.
Application filed October 25,1921. Serialno, 510,283..
' which the following is a specification.
clam pin bar This invention relates to fence posts and has for its object the production of asimple and efficient means for fastening fence wire thereto.
Another object of this invention is the production of a quickly attaching meansfor attaching fence wire to a post.
With these and other ob ects in view, this invention consists of certain novel construetions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed. l
I In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the body of the fence. post, and the clamping bar being removed therefrom.
' Figure 2 is a vertical section through the g shown in position upon the bot y of the post. I
Figure 3 is a section taken on line 66 of Figure 5.
Figure anvil plate which is used fordriving the body of the post into the ground.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 designates the body of the post which is provided with a rear vertically extending reinforcing plate 2, and a front reinforcing plate 8, these plates being formed integral with the body 1 of the post. The body is provided with a beveled lower edge 5 and the plate 2 is provided with a beveled lower edge 4, the plate 3 also being, provided with a beveled lower edge 6, as shown in Figure 4. A driving shoulder 7 is formedupon the body 1 of the post, and this shoulder is bent upwardly to form a vertical bracing rib 8. A forwardlv' extending web is formed upon the rib 8, and a plurality f i i ing notches 10 are formed" upon or in the forward edge of the web 9.
A clamping strip 11, which is V-shaped in cross section, fits over the forward edge of the web 9 and clamps the wire 12 in the notches 10 formed in the web 9. The lower end of the clamping strip 11 is tapered to fit in the V-shaped socket 13, formed at the upper end of the plate 3. The clamping one side thereof.
1- is a detail perspective view of the Pat nted-Au is, 1922.
plate 11 is provided with an overhanging over the threaded bolt 16. The bolt 16 is arranged atthe same angle to the body of the Y 7 post, as the side wall of the notch 13, to fali-p 14, having an aperture 15 adapted to fit the bolt 1.6,this bolt being threaded only on wedged into the clamping plate as shown in igure 7, when the plate 11 is forced over The fence wire 12 is the wire and the forward edge of the web 9;
An anvil plate 17 is provided with a V- shaped aperture 18, which is adapted to fit over the web 9 and the rib 8, the anvil plate 17 being adapted torestupon the driving shoulder 7 of the post 1. The anvil plate 17 is removable, and is only used while driving the post into the ground.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that a very simple and efiicient post has been produced for supporting fence wire,
andhit should be understood" that the post I may be utilized for the construction of any desired form of fence. For instance, pouling from the spirit of the-invention, so long,
as these'chang appended claims. i
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
es fall within the scope of the 8 try wire may be attaehedto the postsby atj.
1. A fence post comprising a body having right angularly extending reinforcing plates formed upon the edge thereof, a driving shoulder formed upon the'body and-terminating in a bracing rlb, a web formed upon the forward face of the rib,'a clamping plate adapted to fit over the front edge of the web for securing fence wiretheretmsaid body provided with a V-shaped notch upon the front edge thereof, the clamping plate having a tapered lower edge fitting in the V-shaped notch, said clamping plateprovided with an overhanging end, and a bolt formed upon'the -booly engaging the overhanging end for' locking the clamping plate upon 1 the body.
2. A fence post comprising a reinforced vertical section provided with wirevreoeiving notches, said post having'near the ground.
line an inwardly extending angular notch the upper end of said post provided with an integral screw threaded bolt extending from the top of said post at an angle substantially the same as the angle 01 said notch, a clamp ing; bar adapted to co-operate with said post,
terminating at its lower end in a Wedge, and having at its upper end a perforated overhanging portion, said post adapted when
