type, as well as one which is particularly adapted for use in connection with bottles containing poison, and which will prevent children or other persons from accidentally drinking the contents of the bottle.
More specifically, the invention comprehends the provision of a bottle stopper structure including an elongated plug adapted to extend downwardly into bottle, which plug is provided with a longitudinal groove adapted to serve as a passageway to permit the dropping of the contents of the bottle therefrom, also to mount a cork about a portion of the stem for fitting and closing the mouth of the bottle as well as to provide a novel wire attaching structure, for attaching the improved stopper to a bottle, in such manner that the stopper may be moved longitudinally relative to the bottle within certain limits, to permit it to be used as a dropper in dispensing the contents of the bottle, which wire structure is bent to form a stopper engaging portion, and a pair of parallel legs having their end portions bent to engage about the outer surface of the neck ofthe bottle and against the under surface of the flange formed in the upper neck of the bottle to attach the stopper structure to the bottle and to form means for limiting the relative movement of the stopper and bottle. v
ther objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. and in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved bottle stopper showing the same applied to a bottle.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the improved stopper showing it applied to a fragment of a bottle and in position to permit the dispensing of the contents of the bottle by drops.
-Figure 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section through the dropper structure illustrating the manner of connecting the attaching wire structure thereto.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, wherein like characters indicate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, the bottle A, may be of any approved type of bottle commonly used for dispensing or marketing medicines or analo gous liquid, and this bottle is provided with the usual neck B upon the outer end of which is formed the annular flange C.
The improved stopper structure 10, comprises a stem 11, preferably formed of glass, or analogous material, which is provided with a reduced portion 12,. formed thereon near its upper end, and a cork 13 is mounted about this reduced portion, either by splitting the cork as shown at 14, or in any other practical manner. The stem 11 is slightly smaller in diameter than the "interior of the neck B. of the bottle, audit is provided with a longitudinally extending groove 15, which is adapted to permit the liquid contents of the bottle A to be dispensed in drops, thereby eliminating the use of'the usual type of medicine dropper when the improved form of stopper is employed.
An attaching structure 16 is provided for attaching the stopper 10 to the bottle A and this attaching structure is formedof a single length of wire bent intermediate its ends to provide a bight portion and a pair forming a closure therefor.
The bight portion of the length of Wire of which the fastening structure 16 is formed is sinuously bent", providing a substantially U-shaped portion 21, the bight portion of which engages about the reduced portion 12 of the stem 11, directly beneath the shoulder formed at the upper end of this reduced portion. The lengths 22 of the. bi-ght portion of the wire 16, are bent outwardly and angled soa-sto; positionthe parallel legs 17 and 18 outwardly of the stopper or cork 13'.

In. applyingthe improved bottle stopper to the bottle A, the stem 11 is inserted in the mouth of. the bottle, and moved downwardly therein until the a'rcu-ate angled portions 19 engage the outer surface of the flange C after which the legs 17 and 18 are sprung outwardly, so as to spread the legs to permit these. arcuate portions to pass over the annular flangeG and the stopper is then forced downwardlyfurther into the bottle,
after which the pressure: upon the legs is released, allowing them to spring in their normal positions, causing: the outer portions to engage about the neck B of the bottle, as
clearly shown in Figure 43 of the drawings.
The cork-or'stopper 13-, may then be forced firmly into the outlet or mouth of the bottle When it is I desired to dispense some of thezcontents of ate portions thereof are moved intoengagement with the under surface ofthe'flangeG, so: asto allow them to pass the flange, and the stopper may then be easily movedfrom connection with the bottle A. i Y
The: improved stopper, when attached to a bottle will prevent a person from accident-ally drinkingthe contents of the bottle and therefore 1. this" stopper is particularly adapted" for use in: connection with bottles containing poison, and will effectively eliminate the accidental suicide, or serious injury to a person, who might accidentally swallow the contents of the bottle if one of the improved stoppers was not used in connection therewith. p
Changesin details may be made without departing from the spirit of this invention, but; 1
I claim:
1. The combination with a bottle including a neck, of a stopper therefor comprising a non-absorbent stem, a cork carried by the stem, and means carried by the stem for engagement about the bottle neck for permitting a limited sliding movementof thetstem relation to the bottle. neck and arranged to prevent accidental disconnection of the stopper and bottle.
2'. The combinationjwith a bottle includ ing. a neck having aflange thereon-,of a stopper therefor COIDPIFlSlIIg anon-absorbent stem, a cork carried by the stem, meanscarriedby the stem for engagement about the bottle neck to prevent accidental disconnee tion of the stopper and bottle, sa-id means enga'geable against said flange to limitthe relative outward movement of the stopper, said stopper provided with a longitudinally extendingrecess to permit the dispensing of said stem, an attaching member carried. by v 5 said stem and comprising a lengthofwi-re bent to form: apair ofleg portions,.the lower ends of said legs being bent toprovideangularly extending arcuate portions for engagement about a bottle neck.

In a bottle stopper, the combination, of a non-absorbent stem provided with areduced portion near one end thereof, a cork mounted about said reduced portion, said stem provided with a longitudinally extending recess, means for attaching said stopper to a bottle comprising a length of wire bent to provide a stemengaging portion-anda pair of legs, the free endportions, of said legs being bent to provide right angularly extended arcuate portions adapted for engagement abouta bottle neck. 1
6. As anew article of manufacture, a dropper attachment for bottles comprising a. relatively long cylindrical stem ofuniform' diameter having a longitudinally extending groove formed therein, a reduced neck formed upon the upper end of the stem and a bottle stopperor cork mounted about said reduced neck.
7. In a bottle stopper, the combination with a body, an attaching member carried by the body formed from a single strand of wire including a horizontally disposed resilient U-shaped portion, means carried by the resilient U-shaped portion for forcibly urging the U-shaped portion into tight engagement with the body, a pair of depending legs formed on the U-shaped portion, and horizontally disposed arcuate arms formed on the lower ends of the legs for engaging about a bottle neck.
