F. F'. CANTON DIISPENSING CONTAINERl Filed FSB. 4, 1924 Patented June 23, 1925.
UNITED STATES QF SAN RAFAEL,
FREDERICK F. CANTON,
CALIFORNIA- DISPENSING CONTAINER Application led February 4, 1924.. Serial No. 600.541.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FREDERICK F. CANTON, a citizen'of the United States, residing in the cityl of San Rafael, in the county of Marin and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Dispensing Container, of which the Jfollowy in is a specification.
will avoid causing any Y y invention relates to improvements in dispensing containers adapted to normally keep the contents of the container effectually enclosed, and to dispense small quantities of the substance as required.
The primary object of my invention is to provide an improved dispensing container adapted to be easily operated by' one hand for dispensing a very small quantity of substance onto'a finger tipvof the user.
Another object is to provide a device of the character described having improved means for normally closing the container.
A further object 'is to provide an improved construction whieh will'acilitate the opening of the container for obstruction from .the conuse and whic free dispensing substance tainer.
A still further object is to provide an improved construction which can be economically manufactured and which will present a neat'and attractive appearance.
I accomplish these and other objects by means ot the device disclosed in the drawings forming va part of the present specification wherein like characters of reference are used to` designate -similar parts throughout said specification and drawings and 1n which, w
Fig. 1 is a vertical section of my improved dispensing container..
Fig. 2 is a lan view'of the container, a portion of the top -being broken away to show the closing means.
Fig. 3\ is a transversesection taken upon the line 3 3 of Fig. dicated. s
Fig. 4 is a broken vertical Vsection of the topof container takenv atY right angles to Fig. 1.
' Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken upon the line 3--3 of Fig. 1 in the direction opposite .to that indicatedby the arrows.-
Referring to the drawingsmy invention will be seen to consist of a cylindrical body ortion 1 open at one end thereof. A cap 1s detachably mounted upon the open end of h will tend to hold the upper to the 1 in the direction 1n-l positioned out 2 the drawings.
1, said cap 2 having a centrally the bod dispose dispensing aperture 3.
A closing element 4 is arranged to normally close the aperture 3, said element 4 being mounted within the cap 2 in connection with a plunger 6 slid-ably mounted within a cylindrical guide 7 secured verse position within the cap. An actuating member 8 extends outwardly through the side of the cap 2 in axial alignment with the plunger 6 and guide 7 and is connected to the plunger by means of a link 9 whereby the plunger and the closing element 4 may be reciprocated within the cap. The body 1 is slotted as at 11 and 12 to admit the guide 7 and the actuating member 8 when the cap is applied.
The top of the cap is made `slightly arched and the upperportion of the closing element 4 is made of corresponding curvature. The closing element 4 is made of spring material and is so shaped that when assembled into the cap 2, a slight spring pressure portion of said element in close contact wlth the inner surface of the cap whereby the aperture 3 will be tightly closed when the element 4 is in closing position as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 en the closing element 4 is moved to uncover the aperture 3, the upper portion is held closely against the top of the cap 2 by the spring pressure, thereby preventing any of the substance being dispensed from entering between the top of the cap and the closing member.
The link 9 is preferably made from two 14 as best shown in said twisted ends which one end together as at 13 and Fig. 3 of the drawings, forming spiral threads by of the 6 while the opposite end is screwed into the actuating member 8. The intermediate portions of the strands arev spread apart to form a loo aperture 3. in a plane at the container The loop isnOrmally disposed right angles tothe axis of so that the strands will be of axial alignment with the aperture 3 thereby'avoidinglthe causing of any obstruction to the passage of substance from the container to the dispensing aperture when the closing element 4 is moved to the open' position as shown in Fig. 5 of In operation in translink is screwed into the plunger substantially larger than the the closing element 4 is normally held in closing position by means of a spring 16 mounted within the guide 7 the movement of the plunger 6 away from the guide 7 being formed in the link 9 which is moved to engage the opposite side 4of the container. The device is intended primarily for dispensing small quantities of a substance conger. In this connection the container may be grasped in the handfof the user in such a position that the tip of a finger may be held against the aperture 3 andl the actuating member 8 pressed inwardly by 'the thumb. The container is then tipped or otherwise manipulated to cause the contents of the container to be moved to the dispensing aperture. As the tip of the linger is held against the aperture none of the substance will be lost, but a small quantity usually sufficient to meet the immediate need of the user, adheres to the finger tip and may be used in the usual'manner. Should greater quantities of the substance be required, the finger tip may of course be removed from over the a erture 3 to permit the free dispensing oiP substance in any quantity required. y
From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a device which may be easily ,operated with only lone handLz and which Iwill keep the container eil'ectlvly closed when not in use. The several parts limited by the loop construction and thereby affording are of simple and chea may be readily assembled), economy in manufacture.
Having thus described my. invention what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
A dispensing container comprising a body; a cap detachably connected to thetained within the body I onto -the tip of a b ody, said dispensing cylindrical cap having a centrally disposed aperture; a transversely disposed guide secured within the cap; a plunger mounted within the guide; a closing element connected to the plunger and arranged to en age the inner surface of the can to close tIxe dispensing aperture; an actuating member extendlng outwardly through the side of the cap; and a link connecting the actuating member and the plunger, said link being formed fromv two strands of wire having their# adjacent ends twisted together to form threads adapted for screwing into the plunger at one end and into the actuating member at the opposite end, the intermediate portions of said strands being spread apart out of alignment with the dispensing aperture to avoiding causing an obstruction' to the passage of substance therethrough when the plunger and closing element are moved to the open position. 1 l
In'witness whereof I hereto set my signature.
FREDERICK F. CANTON.
