Be it known that 1', Gnoncn R. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Viashingtomin the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful 11nprovements in Key Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to ke T holders,'and more particularly to a combined key holder and coin container with identifying means to facilitate its return to the owner when lost. The object of the invention isto provide a simple, efficient and inexpensive device of the character referred tohaving means associated therewith for holding keys or bunches of keys in separated relation, together with means for rewarding and thereby inducing the finder of a lost key holder toreturn the same to the owner; a suitable reward being enclosed within the holder together with instructions for returning the device to the owner.

The invention will first be hereinafter more particularly described, with reference to the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as a part of this specification, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

of said IllOCllso as to provide a coin container or case within which may be placed a coin, or device to be redeemed, of any desired value. for example a quarter or a dollar, or its equivalent; said case having combined therewith means for securing thereto a key or keys, either singly or collectively, in one or more bunches, with individual keys or bunches arranged in separated relation. The spring C is made of spring steel wire or other resilient material and is held on the inner side of the smaller member B of the holder by means of flaps'b which are formed by cutting the marginal flange b and bending the out portions inwardly over the ends and intermediate portion of the spring, whic fits closely against the inner side of the member B at the base of said marginal flange, with its eyes or loops projecting through the open-ended slots, as shown. Either end of the spring may be sprung out from underneath its retaining flap, to permit the link of a chain or a key ring to he slid thereon into engagement with an eye or loop 0, whereupon the released end may be snapped back into place under the flap by which it is held to its work. As shown, the spring has two eyes or loops 0, formed thereon, but may have a greater or and a corresponding number of openings may be provided therefor through the periphery of the case or key holder. Two or more flais intermediate the end flaps may be provided to more securely fasten the spring within the retainingmember of the holder and prevent accidental displacement when either end thereof is disconnected from the end flap, though one intermediate flap will suflice. In assembling, the spring C is placed with in the annular member of the holder, at the base of its marginal flange, and secured by turning the cut portions of the flange which form the flaps b inwardly over the ends of the spring and the intermediate portion thereof, preferably between the eyes or loops which project through the open-ended slots in the periphery of the flange of the retaining member. A bunch of keys, as at D, may then be connected with one eye or loop and a night key E with another eye or loop, the latter key being held apart from the other keys so that it can be easily selected from a bunch of keys by sense of touch in the dark. There may also be placed conveniently within the holder a label or tag having inscribed or printed thereon the name and address of the owner or the owners registration number and suitable directions or instructions to enable the finder to return the lost article to the owner through the mails, or by leaving iti'or delivery to the owner at a local bank or other depository where the owner is registered. The other annular member is then placed with its flange an overlapping the flange b of the member l3 and pressed tightly thereon, thus securing them together. On one side ot the case may be inscribed or impressed the name and address of a local bank or other depository where the owner is registered, for example, the words Owner registered at the Dollar Savings Bank, Youngstown,Ohio, or other words. On the other side of the holder may be inscribed or impressed instructions as to how to open the holder and what to do with it, in order that it may be returned to the rightful owner; for example, in rainbow torm around the upper halt of the case the words insert knife blade in peripheral slot and pry open, and below such words the following, Finder please open this holder, comply with instructions herein and receive reward. The tag enclosed within the case may bear on one side thereof the registration number of the owner, which may be seen through an oblong slot a in the case member A, so that when re turned to the bank the name of the owner may be ascertained by reference to the'oorresponding registration number on the books without opening the case.

In Figs. 6 to 10 is shown a modification ot my invention, A and B are constructed in substantially the same manner as the case-members A and B of the key holder shown in Figs. 1 to 5, but without the notches or openended slots in the marginal flanges and omitting the spring and associated parts for conneoting thereto a key or keys. Otherwise the device is essentially of the same construction as the key holder hereinbei'fore described, but instead of the spring for attaching a key or keys thereto the outer case member has secured thereto one or more eyes a which may be connected by a chain having a snap-hook at one end for attaching a key or keys. It is adapted to contain a coin or coins and a tag with instructions thereon the same as described with refer-- ence to the key holder shown in Figs. 1 to 5 and to have inscribed, impressed or engraved thereon instructions for opening the holder and returning it the same as described with ret'erence to Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings.

' I thus provide a key liolder that carries and makes available to the fii'ider'wheri lost a reward for its return to the owner, without requiring the finder to take the time required to call at anyplace for such reward, as the coin or other medium of reward is contained within the holder itself, and all that the finder has to do is to open the holder, take out the reward and drop the holder in a mail box, or at his optiontake it to the local bank whose name and address appears thereon. Furthermore, the key holder, by reason of the fact that it contains a coin of value as a reward to the finder, has also the merit of beingra portable receptacle for such coin andto that extent prevents the person who carries the same from being entirely out of cash in the event of leaving home without suflicient funds at hand for car fare or the like.

It will be understood, of course, that various changes may be made in the details and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope ofmy invention, for instance, the spring C may be formed with but a single loop or with several loops properly spaced and projecting through a corresponding number of openings in the periphery of the case, and the device is susceptible of being used as a tag or coin holder either with Or without the key holding means, but with identifying means and instructions for returning the same to the owner in the manner hereinbefore described, and I therefore do not desire to be limited in the appended claims to the specific construction and arrangement of parts shown and described.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A key holder consisting of opposed disk-like members, each having a peripheral flange turned toward the other member; said flanges being adapted to fit snugly one within the other for holding the two members together, and means carried by one of said members for attaching keys thereto.

2. A key holder comprising two disk-like members, each having a peripheral flange turned toward the other member; said flanges being adapted to fit snugly one within the other and hold. the two members together, and a spring secured to one of said members, said spring having eyes or loops formed thereon and protruding through openings in the peripheral flange of the spring-supporting member.

3. A combined key holder and coin container consisting of a pair of disk-like members each having a peripheral flange extending toward the other member; said flanges being adapted to fit one within the other for toward the other member,- said flanges being adapted to fit closely one within the other for holding the two members together,a spring arranged within the peripheral flange of one of said members and having loops or eyes projecting therefrom through suitable openings in said flange, said flange having spring having end portions snapped under said flaps, whereby either end of the spring may be released for attaching a key or keys thereto and again snapped under its retaining flap, and means for connecting said holder with a chain by which it may be suspended.

5. A combined tainer consisting each having a marginal flange turned toward the other member; said flanges being adaptedto fit one within the other for h0lding the two parts together; each flange hav ing an open-ended slot or slots therein registering with similar slots in the flange of the other member, one of said members having flaps formed by inwardly turned out portions of its peripheral flange, and a spring on the latter member having end portions snapped unden said flaps and intermediate portions formed into loops or eyes which project through said registering slots.

6. A combined key holder and coin container consisting of two disk-like members each having a marginal flange turned toward the other member, said flanges being adapted to fit one within the other for holding the two parts together, each flange having an open-ended slot or slots therein registering with similar slots in the flange of the other member, one of said members having flaps formed by inwardly turned out portions of its peripheral flange, and a spring carried by the latter member having end portions snapped under said flaps and intermediate portions formed into loops or eyes which project through said registering slots; one member having an oblong slot or sight opening therein.

7. key holder and coin or tag container comprising two disk-like members each having a peripheral flange turned toward the other member and an open ended slot or slots in its peripheral flange registering with a similar slot in the other flange, that portion of the flange out to form the slot in one member being turned inwardly to serve as a means for holding a removable part with key holder and coin coninwardly turned flaps, and said of two disk-like members I in the holder, one of said members having an oblong slot or sight opening therein to expose to view the owners registry number enclosed within the holder.

8. As a means for inducing the finder of a lost article to return the same to the owner thereof, a coin and tag holder consisting of opposed members having overlapping peripheral flanges for securing them together and a coin or coins and a tag or tags therebetween a tag within the holder containing instructions to enable the finder to return the device to its owner, and the holder bearing on its outer side or sides the name and address of a bank or other depository where the owner is registered and directions for opening the holder.

9. As a. means for inducing the finder of a lost article to return the same to the owner thereof, a coin and tag holder consisting of opposed members having overlapping peripheral flanges for securing them together and a coin or coins and a tag or tags therebetween, a tag within the holder containing the owners registry number and instructions 25 GEORGE R.
