Application filed. April 15, 1921; Serial No. 461,502.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED D. WAGNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka,,in the county of Greenwood and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Corn-Husking Hook, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to corn husking implements, and the invention aims to provide a device of this character having a removable husk enga ing blade, whereby the blade may be readily and easily removed for sharpening or replacement.
A further object of the invention is to provide a means for securing the blade to the body portion of the device, eliminating the use of rivets, screws or the like for accomplishing this end.
A still. further object of the invention is the provision of means to eliminate movement of the blade with respect to its support, when the device is put to use.
VVit-h the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing z- Figure 1 illustrates the device as applied to the hand of a user.
Figure 2 illustrates a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 illustrates a perspective view of one form of husk engaging blade and Figure 4- illustrates a perspective view of a modified form of husk engaging blade.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates a cuff, which is formed preferably of flexible leather material, there being provided 'a suitable strap by means of which the cuff 5 may be secured to the wrist of a user.
Secured to the cuff 5, and designed to overlie a portion of the palm of the hand of the user, is a support 6, formed of leather or other suitable flexible material, and as shown this support has one end thereof connected to the cuff 5 as by means of the rivets 7 which rivets also pass through the metallic body port-ion 8, to which the blade, to be hereinafter more fully described is connected.
This body portion 8 is formed with a cut out portion intermediate its ends, there being provided a depressed portion 9 at one end of the cut out portion, adapted to support the body portion 8 in spaced relation with the support 6, thereby providing a clearance to accommodate the end 10 of the husking blade. At one end of the cut out portion is a bar 11, which is also offset with respect to the body portion 8, and forms a guard to overlie the blade 10 to prevent movement thereof.
A relatively small cut out portion is formed adjacent to one end of the first mentioned cut out portion and along one edge of the bar 11, the latter cut out port-ion providing a clearance for the husking blade, to permit the same to be positioned on the body portion of the device.
Forming one wall of the latter cut out portion is a boss or enlargement indicated at 12 which provides a stop for the blade, to eliminate movement thereof when the device is put to use, it being understood that when the blade is positioned on the body portion, this boss contacts with the rear thereof.
The blade, forming an important feature of the invention has a hook member 13 which may be formed as a single prong blade as indicated by Figure 3 of the drawing, or as a double prong blade as indicated by Figure 4 of the drawing, in each instance the blades are provided with enlargements 14 to reinforce the same and eliminate bending of the prongs.
Shoulders 15 are formed at the bases of the blades, which shoulders contact with the upper surface of the body portion 8, and restrict movement of the blade towards the body portion.
From the foregoing it will be seen that if it is desired to remove the blade, to replace the same, it is only necessary to move the leather support 6 downwardly, away from the body portion 8, whereupon the blade may now be pivoted until the end 10 thereof takes a vertical position within its out out portion. The blade may now be readily re moved.
In order that the device may be held in proper position on the hand of the wearer, a strap 16 is provided, which strap has connection with the body portion 8 adjacent to one corner thereof, and is designed to pass under the thumb of the user, the free end of said strap having connection with the cult 5 in any suitable manner.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A husking implementincluding, a support, a body portion having an enlargement "formed at one end thereof and having its opposite end depressed and contacting with the support to provide a space between the support and body portion, a husking blade adapted to be positioned within the space, and said husking blade adapted to engage the enlargement to restrict movement otthe blade with respect to the body portion.
2. A husking implement including, a support, a body portion having a cut out portion, an enlargement formed at one end of the body portion, a bar connecting the walls of the cut out portion adjacent to the enlargement and providing a space between the bar and enlargement, a husking blade husking blade adapted to engage the en-- largement to restrict movementof the blade in one direction.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
