Description

E. R. INMAN. EXHIBITION TURNTABLE. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 22. 1920.

EDWARD R. INMAN, OF FRANKLIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
EXHIBITION- TURNTABLE.
iaarooe.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 27, 1922.,
App1ication filed February 2, 1920.. Serial No. 355,656.
Turntables, of which the following is a specification.
The object and construction of this invention are herein set forth with sufficient clearness to enable others skilled in the art to which it relates, to make and use the same.
In the exhibition of automobiles it is very desirable, in order to exhibit the car in its various aspects most advantageously, that the observer should be able to stand or sit in one posit-ion while the car revolves horizontally, so that its various lines, features, details and characteristics shall be successively and repeatedly presented to the view of the observer. The main object of this invention is to provide such an exhibition device.
The construction whereby I accomplish this object is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof and in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of my improved exhibition turn table with a portion of the turret broken away to expose the base to view.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation with portions broken away to expose other portions to view.
The construction here shown consists of a base 1 which is adapted to be secured to the floor or any other suitable support by means of bolts 2, passing through lugs 3 adjacent to the lower edge of the base. Said base is provided with any suitable type of antifriction annular hearing, as a race 4 and balls 5, which are contained within a lubricant channel 6.
A turret 7 is revolubly supported upon this bearing, and in order to assist in retaining said base and turret in their proper relative concentric positions, a central or pivotal bearing 8 is supplied. Said base and turret, together with their bearings may be constructed as shown in my co-pending application Serial No. 854,035 filed Jan. 26 1920.
Upon two opposite sides of said turret, structural steel angles 9-9 are secured, which serve as carriers for the wheels of an automobile. The tread or carrying surface of said carriers 9 are positioned below the upper surface of said turret.
The underside of said turret issupplied with a gear or annular rack 10, which may be attached thereto in any suitable manner. The periphery of base 1 is equipped with a box or bearing 11 for the upper end of a vertically-disposed motor-shaft 12, which carries at its upper end a rigidlyattached pinion 13, to which shaft motive power is supplied by the motor 14.
Said motor is shown as being attached.
to the underside of the floor or platform upon which the turn table rests, but it will be readily understood that this is a detail which must be suited to local conditions and be arranged accordingly. Said motor may be fully carried by a bracket that is attached to the bearing 11.
I claim the following:
1. In an exhibition turn table, in combination, a turn table for automobiles comprising a base, a turret revolubly carried and fully supported by said base, carriers for an automobile carried by said turret with their tread-surfaces positioned below the upper surface of said turret, and mechanical means for revolving said turret.
2. In an exhibition turn table, in combination, a turn table for automobiles comprising a base adapted to receive and fully support a turret, a rectangular turret revolubly mounted upon said base and wholly supported thereby, carriers for an automobile attached to two opposite sides of said turret, with their carrying surfaces positioned belowthe upper surface of said turret and mechanical means for revolving said turret.
3. In an exhibition turn table in combination, a base, having asa feature thereof an annular channel adapted to contain a lubricant, antifriction bearing elements in said channel, a rectangular turret revolubly mounted upon said base carried by said antifriction bearing elements, carriers for an automobile carried by said turret, and mechanical means for revolving said turret.
4. In an exhibition turn table, in combination, a. circular base having as a feature thereof an annular channel adjacent to the circumference thereof adapted to contain a lubricant, antifriction bearing elements in said channel, a turret revolubly mounted shaft, a pinion rigidly carried by said shaft, means for revolving said shaft, a rectangular turret revolubly mounted upon said base and carried by said antitriction bearing elements, an annular gear rigidly attached to said turret in mesh with said pinion, and adapted to be driven thereby, and carriers for an automobile carried by said turret.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
EDlVARD R. INMAN.
