D. TUSO AMUSEMENT DEVICE Filed Nov. ll. 1920 ,DOME/vm@ DOMENIC TUSO, OIF BURlEil-IQK. ALEFORNIA.
DEVCE.
Application led November l., 1.329. Serial No.
To all automat may concern.'
Be it known that l, Domenico Toso, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burbank, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in f'iuiusement which the following is a specification.
lt is the object of this invention to provide an amusement device in the nature of an aerial swing. V
More particularly, it is the object of the invention to provide a plurality of suspended carriages adapted to carry passengers and arranged to be swung in a circle and at the same time elevated and lowered, the carriages swinging freely radially of the rotatable support during the operation of the device.
connection for rotating' the saine,
rlhe invention will be readily understood from the following);l description of the accompanying drawingshowin@Y a side elevation, partly in vertical section, of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
The device comprises a support l` which may be of any preferred construction. A t the upper end of this support is arranged a bearing 2 having its axis inclined with relation to both the vertical and the horizontal and, preferably, disposed at an angle of 450. A shaft 8 is j'ournaled in this bearing` and projects beyond the saine with the hub 3 of a wheel d fixed upon said projection. The wheel is thus disposedl at an angle of 450. The wheel is provided with saolres 5 which include turnbuclde 6 for tightening the saine, and braces 7 are, preferably, also extended from the rim 8 of the wheel. to a brace rod 9 projecting axially beyond the wheel.
rEhe shaft 3 is provided with an operating said operating connection including gear 1U fired upon `shaft- 3 and meshing' with a bevel pinion ll carried by a drive shaft l2 journaled in the frame l. The end of shaft 'l2 opposite pinion l-, preferably, extends' to the base of frame l and is provided with bevel gear-13 meshing with a bevel pinion 14 carried by the shaft of a suitable operating means shown as lan electric motor l5. By
Devices, of
this arrangement the motor is adapted to rotate the wheel l. Y
The rotatable wheel is of such diameter that its rim 8 is positioned outwardly beyond support l, and a. plurality of carriages 16 are swingably suspended from the rim 8. These carriages are adapted to carry passengers and are suspended at their respec tive ends by looped supports 17 from eyes 18 which .are pivoted to eyes i9 projecting radially beyond the rim 8.
rlhe suspension of the carriages by supports at their respective ends and the angular disposition of the ywheel 4, will cause the carriages to he tilted as they are swung around with the wheel ll, and at the same time the carriages will be raised and lowered through the angular disposition of the wheel. lt will also be noted that the pivotal mountings provided by co-operating eyes 18 and 19 will permit radial swinging; movement of the suspended carriages as shown in dotted lines in the drawing.
An aerial swing is thus provided in which the carriages carrying the passengers are swungback and forth and at the same time are tilted longitudinally and raised and lowered.
Various changes may be made without departing' from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
`What is claimed is:
l. An amusement device comprising a support, an inclined bearing` sustained on the support, a shaft journaled in the bearing, a wheel fixed to the shaft, a `rear fixed to the shaft between the wheel and bearing, a secon d shaft disposed vertically within the support, driving means operatively connected to the second shaft, a gear fixed to the second shaft and meshingl with the first xfrear whereby rotation of the wheel is effected, eyes projecting4 radially from the periphery of the wheel, and hooks engaging the eyes, and passenger carrying members sustained from the hooks so as to be normally disposed in a vertical plane.
2. An amusement device comprising a support, an inclined bearing sustained on the support, a shaft journaled in the bearery of the Wheel, elements engaging the extensions, and passenger carrying members 10 sustained from the elements so as to he norinaily disposed in a. vertical piane.
In testimony Whereoi have signed iny name to this specification.
D. TUSO.
