Description
1. BEVNNoR. Sewing-Machine-Tahles. 10.141,985.v Patented August19,18`73.l
FIGA
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEIGE.
JOSEPH BENNOH, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSGNOE TO NESBIT D. STOOPS AND JOHN E. MYERS, OE SAME PLAGE.
IMPRVEIVIENT IN SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 14L985, dated August 19, 18723; application led July 9, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BENNOR, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certa-in Improvements in Extension-Tables for Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification;
My invention consists otA sliding bolts ot' peculiar construction, in combination with sockets confined to the lower flat surface ot' thetable-top, and with the extension-cover, so as to holdthe latter in connection with the top of the table, as hereinafter fully described.
Figure l is a reverse plan of the table top A, having the bolts 0 C and their sockets D D in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the top A and cover B, connected therewith by means ot the bolts C G. Fig. 3 is a reverse plan view ot' one of the sockets D. Fig. 4t is an isometrical view of one of the sliding bolts G in areverse position. Fig. 5 is a like view of one ofthe sprin gs E. Fig. Gis aA view of one of the lugs G.
Like letters of reference in all the iigures indicate the same parts.
A is the tabletop of a sewing-machine, and B the cover. C G arel bolts for connecting the cover -to an end of the top B, as seen in Fig. 2. They slide in the sockets D D, confined, by means of screws, to the under flat surface of the top A, and are capable of being pushed -back altogether under the top, as seen in Fig. 1, and of being drawn forward to support the cover, as seen in Fig. 2. There are springs E E, whose heels c are held against the under side of the top A, being held in position by the recesses b b at each Side of the longitudinal Slots c ofthe sockets D, (seen in Fig. 3,) without the aid of screws.
The resilient ends of the sprin gs press upon the upper edges of the bolts C C, `and canse the notches d d in their front ends to catch over the lips e c ot' the sockets when the bolts are pushed back under the top A, as seen in Fig. l. When the bolts are to be drawn forward for connecting the cover B with the top, their iront ends are raised from their con nection with the lips c; and when they assume their forward position, as seen in Fig. 2, the notches d d are brought, by the action of the springs E E, over the said lips e c, whereby they are Securely held in this position.
The cover B is brought into connection with the top A by pushing it in place horizontally, the bolts C C passing through the eye-plates F F, confined, by means ot` screws, to the adjacent side -of the cover, the ends of the bolts passing under the adjustable inclined lugs G G on the under side of the cover, and the acute ledges of the lugs resting in the notches gg of the bolts, whereby the cover is held securely in position.
The lugs are inclined lengthwise, and havev slots h, through which screws I pass, and contine them to the under side of the top of the cover B. They are made adjustable for the purpose of regulating the cover to bring its upper surface in line with the top of the table.
I claim as myinventionl. The bolts C C, having notches d d d d and gg in their upper edges, in combination with the sockets D D, having slots a in their upper sides, and lips c at their front ends, the springs E E, eye-plates F F, and lugs G G, substantially in the manner and for the purpose above setforth.
2. The adjustable inclined lugs G G, in combination with the cover B and bolts C O, having notches g g, substantially in the manner and for the purposes above described.
JOSEPH BENNOR.
