Description
l. F. MARTIN.
. Extension-Table. N0, l65,\()7 v Patentedjune 2.9.1875.
PARK PLAGEJLY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEE-ICE JOHN F. MARTIN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT FO RAND, MCSHERRY 85 OO., OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,107, dated June 29, 1875; applicatfon filed May 31, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN F. MARTIN, of Ba1 timore, in the county of Baltimore and in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new andusefnl Improvements in Extension-Tables; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciiication. "w-
My invention relates to extension-tables; and it consists in dividing the top of the table intol three sections and disconnecting the ends of the frame of the table from the legs and framing them solid to the center table-top to form slides for one or more drawers under said center section, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to` make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of an extension-table embodying my invention.
The top of my table is divided into three parts or sections, A and B B, the end sections B B being simply narrow strips, to which the leaves c c are hinged. To each section B are secured the legs D D and the side piece E connecting them. The end pieces G Got' the table-frame are disconnected from the tablelegs and framed solid to the center section, A, theouter ends of said pieces G being on a line with the edges of said section. These end pieces, G G, are connected by parallel side bars H H, as shown, the Whole forming slides admitting of the use of a drawer at each end of the table-top section A.
I I are the ordinary extension slides used in the table.
The extra lea-ves of the table are inserted between the center and side sections of the table top. v
This extensiontable can be manufactured at the same or less cost and with less labor than the ordinary table, and has the advantage of the drawers under the center section.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described extension-table, consisting of the center section A with stationary top and stationary end pieces G G, containing a drawer and supported by a central leg, the movable narrow sections B B supported upon legs D D and side pieces E E, and the slides I I connected to the sections B B, and movable directly under the stationary top of the central section and over the drawer, all constructed substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 14th day of May, 1875.
` JOHN F. MARTIN. Witnesses H. A. HALL, C. L. EVERT.
