H. SGHROBDER.
TABLE.
No. 568,172. Patentredsept. 22, 1896.
. tioned for use and another UNITED STATES HEINRICH SCHROEDER, OF MILVAUKEE, W'ISONSIN.
TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,172, dated September 22, 1896. Application filed February l0, 1896. Serial No. 578,719. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH SCHEOEDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The invention has for its object to p rovide a simple economical extensiontable, the eX- tensionleaves of which are connected to the frame and remain therewith out o'f the way when not in use. Hence said invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l represents a plan view of my improved table, partly broken away, one of the extension-leaves being posifonthe edge to come in or out of such position; Fig. 2, a transverse section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. l to illustrate the extension-leaves out of use, the way they are brought in or out of service being shown by dotted lines; and Fig. 3, a similar view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. l to `illustrate the way in which sliding sections of the table-top are held to the frame.
Referring by letter to the drawings, Arepresents the legs; B, side bars; C C, parallel end bars, and D iiXed guides embodied in the frame of my improved table.
The end bars are shown provided with dovetail notches engaged by corresponding ribs E, fast on the under side of the top-sections F, and thus these top-seciions are held in sliding connection with the table-frame, although other suitable means may be employed for the same purpose. The top-sections are also` provided with rails G, that have sliding engagement with the fixed guides D above speciiied, and as a matter of detail said rails may be made with lateral projections b, arranged to come under said guidesD, as best illus trated in Fig. 2, the length and disposition of these projections being such that they serve as stops to limit the outward movement of said top-sections.
when the Pivoted to the end bars intermediate of 5o the table-center and a side bar B are blocks H, fast on a leaf I, to which another leaf, J, is hinged, and the table-frame is provided with a lateral stop K, upon which to rest said leaves when the latter are out of service, as shown in Fig. 2. The sliding sections of the tabletop being moved outward a sufficient distance, the leaves I J are swung up by hand and spread apart to rest on the table-frame flush with said top-sections, this operation being clearly illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
By means of pins and sockets, common in the art of extension-tables, provision is made for dowel connection of the top-sections and leaves when the latter are brought into position for use, said top-sections having a like connection when run in to meet over said leaves folded together and swung down out of the Way. As herein shown, the extensionleaves of the table may be panels suitably framedto prevent warping.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An extension-table comprising asuitable frame, top-sections in sliding connection with the frame, blocks in pivotal connection with end bars of said frame, a top-leaf fast to the blocks another leaf hinged to the one aforesaid, and a supportingstop for said leaves latter are out of service, it requiring a lift and partial rotation of said leaves as well as a spreading apart of the same to bring them iiush with the sliding top-sections of the table when these top-sections are ad justed to uncover the aforesaid leaves.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
