Specification forming part of vLetters Patent No. HLLSLM), dated August 19, 1873 application filed April 28, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY BLAUVELT, of Ithaca, county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marking and Guttin g Gages, of which the following is a specification;
The nature of my invention relates to an iinprovement in marking and cutting gages for cutting and marking out dresses, and work of all kinds; and it consists in the arrangement 'and combination of parts, which will be more fully described hereafter.
Figure 1 isa plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
a represents the gage, made of a strip of metal or other material, of any desired length,
and having a scale of inches marked Vupon its top. One of its ends is turned upward at right angles and slotted, so that the wheel c, used for marking, can be adjusted vertically, as circumstances may require. Attached to this upturned end is a handle, e, for propelling the wheel, and a chalk-holder, g, for holding the chalk against the teeth of the wheel, so that as it revolves the teeth, by rubbing against the chalk, will be whitened, and thus leave their marks behind on the work as they are propelled over it. l
When it is desired to cut the work out at once, the marking-wheel is removed and a cutting one used in its place, which will cut the cloth like a pair of scissors or a knife.
Moving back and forth on the gage is the adjustable slide i', having attached to it two small rollers or wheels, l, placed upon a plane with the marking or cutting wheel, and a setscrew, a, for securing it at any desired point on the gage.
