GEORGE Il.. VICCKERY, OF LEXlNGTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ramera.
Application filed April 1G, 1921.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that l, (inonde A.. Vioirnnr, a citizen of the United States, and resident ot Lexington, county oi lvliddlesex, Common wealth oiE Massachusetts, have invented an improvement in Receptacles, oi? which the following,l description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specifica` tion, lilre characters on the drawings representing like parts.
rlhis invention relates to receptacles itor liquids and particularly liquids in bottles.
its object is to provide a receptacle where the bottled liquid, such as milk, can be quickly deposited by the delivery man and be sai'e from annoyance by animals, dogs or cats, and shielded trom the hot sun andV weather.
lfu the drawings ot' thev present embodiment ot my invention,
Fig. i is a tront View showing the stirrup and liquid container', as a bottle, in dotted lines; and
IlFig. 2, a vertical section on the line 2 4?, Fig. l, and showing, in dotted lines, the stirrup and container :in raised position, the latter in position to be removed.
@ne term of my novel receptacle is herein illustrated as comprising' a cylindrical member l, of any suitable material as metal, and having,` an inner wall 2 and outer' wall 3 suitably lined `or coated igt desired with an air space or chamber le between them providing substantially a thermos construction. The receptacle may be carried by a base 4;" with a vertical rib 4b i'or suspending,- it it desired, to any convenient support. rlhe air in the chambers 4 may be exhausted if [nf-cierred, to create a vacuum.
The cover 5, F 2, may be similarly constructed with correspondinp,I inner and outer walls and'such a container will protect the contents for a long time against extreme atmospheric conditions.
lu order to render such a receptacle most convenient for use, l have provided the cover with a stirrup 6 for holding,- the container and comprising a wire bent at its .center to form two legs 7, the ends of which are bent laterally to form supporting arms Epeciication of Letters Patent.

8 for the container 9. The stirrup can be supported from the inside or lower face 3 of the cover by any convenient means as a screw eye 10.
| ln order to hold the cover in raised position aiter it has been raised with its container', if empty, l have provided it with a spring il. One end oi the spring is secured to the cover by a pin 12 seated in a slot 13 in the cover, and the opposite spring end is secured to a pin or other anchorage lll in the recess l5 in the rib 16 on the back of the container.
In use the cover is first raised and then the bottle is deposited on the stirrup arms 8, where the weight of the bottle will overbalance the action of the spring 1l and drop within the container and cause the cover to close automatically.
When the container is to be removed it will be raised to a position where it can be conveniently grasped, by V.simply raising the cover by its lift 17.
1While the container, it' filled, and in lower position will overbalance the spring 11 when the cover has been closed, the spring will hold the cover and its suspended container in raised position if the latter is empty.
lt will be obvious that my novel container will provide a safe and convenient receptacle for bottles of milk or any liquid that it may be desired to safeguard from the sun, rain, and dogs, or even small children, by placing it at a proper height, above the ground.
My invention is not limited to the embodiment illustrated, and I claim:
l. A receptacle comprising` a hollow body, a cover with a container stirrup carried thereby, a spring on the body adapted 'to hold the cover', stirrup and empty container in raised position, and when a full container is placed on the stirrup, to yield and per mit the cover to close and container to drop into the receptacle. i
2. A thermos receptacle comprising a hollow body, a cover with a container stirrup carried thereby, a spring on the body adapted to hold the cover, stirrup and empty container in raised position and when a full container is placed on the stirrup7 to yield and permit the cover to close and container to drop into the reoeptaole.
3. A thermos receptacle With a Cover, and having in combination therewith a oontainer stirrup carried by the cover, a downwardly acting spring on the body tending to raise the cover stirrup and empty oontainer to raised position7 and when :1 full container is placed on the stirrup to yield 10 and to permit the cover to close and the Container and stirrup to drop into the re- Ceptaole.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my nume to this speoifioation.
GEORGE A. VICKERY.
