Description
R. T. REED.
COLLAPSIBLE TENT.
APPLiCATION men AUG. 6, I921.
Patented May 9, 1922,.
A HORNE Y8 RAYMOND THEODORE REED, OF WICH ITA, KANSAS.
COLLAPSIBLE TENT.
Application filed au ust 6, .1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RAYMOND TQREED, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of lVichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Tents, of which the-following is a specification.
My invention is animprovernent in collapsible tents, and the invention has for its object toprovide a device of, the character specified capable for use in any connection, but especially adapted for childrens play tents, wherein a folding frame is provided having a flexible cover and so arranged that the supporting elements of the frame may be folded down fiat upon each other, together with the flexible cover, for purposes ofstor-l age or the like.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the improved tent in unfolded position;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing-the manner of folding the tent; I V
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the frame unfolded; j
Figure at is a similar View of the tent folded, with the position of the frame members indicated in dotted lines,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the connection between the ends of the frame mem bers. 1
In the present embodiment of the inven tion a suitable frame is provided, consisting of uprights 1, in the present instance six in number. These uprights are connected at their tops by a ring 2,v thesaid ring being passed through transverse openings 2 near' the tops of the uprights, and the uprights-are thus mounted to swing upon the ring or to slide upon the ring toward and from each other. 4
j The uprights are connected at their lower ends by folding arms, each armconsisting of similar sections 3 and 4t pivoted at-their outer ends to-the uprights and at their adj acent ends connected by a rule joint, which permits them to swing freely upward at the joint, but limits their downward swinging movement to a position where they are in alinement. Between two of the uprights the folding arms 3-4: are omitted and at this point is the entrance of the tent. A hook 5 of suitable length is pivoted to one of the uprights at one side of the entrance to the tent, and is adapted to engage an eye .6 on the upright at the opposite side of the en- Specifieation of'Letters Patent.
Serial No. 490,278.

mg the entrance to thetent. The outermost edge of the covering is detachably connected like, forming a door'for the tent. This door may be snapped down into place to coverthe en with this uprightfby snap buttons' 8 or the i and thus a-movable fly 9.v is provided,
trance openingor it may be swung openas,
shown in Figures 1 and-2.
In order to foldthe tent, the hook 5'is detached andithe arms 3 and 4- are iiswung upwardly at their joints, as indicatedin' Figure 2, and the uprights are slipped about on thering 2 until they fold smoothly upon F f 5 each other. The flexible covering W111 reia- Y in double foldsas'shown in Figure 4, and
theentire frame and covering folds thus into are exposed by the ring, and

Afolding-tent comprising a series of v uprights, a ring uponv which the upper ends of the uprights-are mounted to swing and slide into spaced relation orinto contact with each other, folding arms connecting the and an eye on the lower ends of the uprights adjacent each other, and a covering to the uprights at their outer ends and connected by a rule joint at'their adjacent ends.
