Description

E. TYNER. FOLDING FRAME FOR MOSQUITO BARS. APPLICATION FILED MAR. 28, 1910.
976,950. Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
"STAQEES- PATENT OFFICE EVA TYNEB, OF CAN'ON CITY, COLORADO.
FOLDING FRAME FOR MOSQUITO-BARS.
jaraoso.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EVA TYNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canon City, in the county of Fremont and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Frames for Mosquito-Bars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in frames or supports for mosquito bars or net canopies, and its object is to provide a simple and practical device of this character which may be compactly folded when not in use, and which may be readily set up and used on a babys crib, a bed, a table or other object for supporting a netting or canopy which will exclude flies, mosquitos and other insects.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved folding frame in its open position; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view, the mosquito bar or canopy being indicated in dotted lines; Fig. 3 is a detail section taken on the plane indicated by the line 44 in Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the sliding catch; and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the frame folded.
My improved folding frame or support for net canopies or mosquito bars comprises two similar side members 1 united by inwardly folding end members 2. The side members 1 are each formed from a single piece of heavy wire or metal rod by bending it at suitable points to provide straight central portions 3 and downwardly and outwardly inclined portions 4, which latter form supporting legs.
The end members 2 are each formed of two hingedly connected half sections 5, 6, which are hingedly connected to opposing legs 4 and adapted to fold inwardly to bring the two side members 1 close together so that the frame when folded will occupy but little space. The half sections 5, 6, are each formed from a single piece of heavy wire bent into U-form and having their closed or connecting portions? forming pivots and united by a sheet metal hinge loop 8. The
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 28, 1910.
Pateni'aed- Nov. 29, 1910.
Serial No. 552,037,
extremities of the parallel arms of the U- shaped sections 5, 6, are bent to form hinge eyes 9 which latter engage and rotate on the legs 4, as shown more clearly in Figs.
2 and 3.
In order to prevent the end members 2 from collapsing when the frame is set for use I provide on each of said members a sliding catch or fastener 11 which is constructed from a suitable piece of sheet metal and has a tubular end 12 to slide on one of the arms of one of the half sections of said member, and the other end of said fastener 11 being channel or U-shaped, as shown at 13, and-adapted to slide over and engage the correspondmg arm of the opposing sect1on of the end member when such member is in open position, as will be understood.
on reference to Figs. 1 and 2.
In order to prevent a mosquito bar or net' canopy, which is indicated at A in Fig. 2,
from sagging in the center of the frame, cords, wires, chains or similar flexible elements 14 are arranged diagonally between-1 Thesethe corners of the side members 1. elements 14 are attached to eyes or hooks formed preferably from pieces of wire 15v which are bent around and secured to the up-- per portions of the legs 4 immediately be-- neat-h the upper hinge eyes 9, whereby these wire hooks serve not only as attaching meana for the cords or elements 14, but also as stops.-
for preventing the end members from Slip) ping downwardly on the legs 4. The cords or elements 14 will, of course, drop within the frame when the latter is folded or collapsed.
From the foregoing it will be seen that my invention provides an exceedingly simple and inexpensive frame which will effeotively support a mosquito bar over a bed or crib, or a net canopy over a table or any other object. The peculiar construction of the device not only enables it to be produced at a small cost but permits it to be quickly and easily set up for use or folded for stor age or trans ortation. Vhen set up for use and fastene it will be exceedingly rigid and effectively support the mosquito bar or canopy.
While the present embodiment of the instood that the device may be used for supporting a net canopy over a, dining table and for various other purposes.
. Having thus described the inventiongvhat is claimed is:
1. A device of the character described comprising two side members each formed from a piece of Wire by bending it at suitable points to provide a central portion and depending. legs, inwardly folding end members composed o f half sections, each of the latter being formed from a piece of wire bent into Uvfor m. and having the extremities of its arms bent to form hinge eyes Whichengage the legs, a hinge strap uniting the closed portions of the two U-shaped half sections, a sliding catch for each end member mounted for. sliding movementon onehalf section of the same and having a channel portion to engage the, opposing half section, and flexible elements between the two side members.
2. A. device of the character described comprisingtwo side-members each having side bars and downwardly extending legs, inwardly folding end members each composed of hingedly. connected half sections, the latter having at their outer ends eyes to loosely engage the, legs, whereby said sections are hingedly connected to the legs, flexible elements to support a mosquito bar or canopy at the central portion of the frame, and attaching means for said elements arranged on said legs beneath the eyes on the sections of the end members, whereby said fastening means for the elements will prevent the endmembers from slipping ownwardly on the legs.
3. A device of the character described comprising two side members each formed from a piece of Wire by bending it at suitable points to provide a central portion and depending legs, inwardly folding end memi mi e...
