To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY l/V. Loose, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Pipe Cutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to improvements in pipe cutter attachments, an object of the invention being to provide a device of this character, which may be used in connection with a pipe cutter to permit of the cutting of various sized pipes with the same cutter.

I am aware of the fact that certain attachments have been patented before for similar purposes, but the primary object of this invention is to provide an attachment which may be quickly and rigidly attached to a cutter, which will be simple and practical in construction, durable and efficient in use, and exceedingly inexpensive to manufacture.

With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

Figure 1 is a broken view in elevation of a pipe cutter, showing my improved attachment in applied position;

Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the attachment.

Referring in detail to the drawings, I have illustrated a conventional form of pipe cutter which includes a main frame 1, formed at its opposite ends with a screw threaded stem 2 and'a jaw 3. A screw a is caused to travel through the stem 2 by turning a handle 5. An arm 6 pivoted at 7 on the intermediate portion of the frame 1 carries a cutter disc 8. The screw 4 is engeable with the free end of the arm 6 to move the cutter disc into working contact with a pipe supported. upon rollers 9 journaled at some distance apart in the jaw 3. The jaw 3 is recessed, as indicated at 10, to accommodate the rollers.

My invention resides in the provision of a novel attachment for the cutter, which Specification of Letters Patent.

facilitates the cutting of small sized pipes. The attachment, seen most clearly in Figure 3, con s1sts of a boXlike frame 11, formed with lntegral ears or brackets 12 at each end. Rollers 13 are journaled between the ears on short trunnions 14. In applying the attachment, the boxlike frame 11 is slipped into the recess 10, the rollers 13 resting upon the rollers 9 and supporting the bottom of the frame 11 above the bottom of the recess 10. An offset arm 15 connected to the frame 11 by a short extension 16 is located upon the outside of the cutter jaw 8, and preferably carries a means for self-attachment to the jaw in the form of a set screw 17 mounted in a threaded opening 18 at the extremity of the arm.

It will be seen that a pipe 19 may be readily supported upon the rollers 13 in working contact with the cutter disc 8. The attachment may be extremely light in constructlon, since there is no strain upon the attachment itself. All of the strain is transmitted directly through the rollers 13 onto the main rollers 9. When the attachment is in place, the frame 11 fitting within the recess 10 and the arm 15 clamped to the outside of the jaw absolutely locks the attachment against movement in any direction.

Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it

will be apparent that various slight changes I and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. The combination with a pipe cutter, in-

cluding a main frame, a pair of rollers journaled therein and spread apart and having a recess therein accommodating the rollers, of an attachment including a boxlike frame fitting the recess between the rollers, other rollers carried by said last mentioned frame and supported on said first-mentioned rollers, and means integral with the last mentioned frame adapted to be rigidly locked to the outside of the first mentioned frame.

2. The combination with a pipe cutter, including a main frame, a pair of rollers joumzded therein and apart and having a recess therein dating the rollers, of an attachment including a boxiike frame fitting the recess between the rollers, other rollers carried by said last mentioned frame and supported on said first mentioned rollers means integral with the lest mentioned frame adapted to be rigidly locked to the outside of the first mentioned frame, said means comprising an offset arm 10 carried bythe boxlike frame, and a set screw associated with the arm.
