To @ZZ whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, Fran) L. VERNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use-l ful Improvements in Garment Supporters, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. t
Considerable'ditiiculty has been experienced in keeping mens shirts from pulling out of the trousers, particularly at the back, or the trousers slipping down, when wear- ,ing belts, and various articles have been devised for overcoming these conditions, but they have been found inefficient, impractical, as well as more or less complicated and expensive, therefore the purpose of the present invention consists in an improved garment supporter vbetween the shirt and the trousers, so that the pressu'reof the belt, or even the waist band of the trousers, cooperating with the supporter, will act to overcome these difficulties;
Another 4purpose is to provide a supporter,v which is v'ery Vsimple and inexpensive in construction, and has been found t0 perform the act of supporting the trousers and preventing the pulling out of the shirt from the trousers, in such wise as notv to tear the shirt or the inner waist band lining of the trousers, and support the trousers comfortably, and hold the trousers where they are first arranged when dressing.
Still another purpose consists in the pro-Y vision of a. supporter comprising a male and female member, one fitting within the other, and constructed of some suitable pliable or flexible material and ydesigned to fasten to the shirt, there being a narrow strapl or band or strip of fabric attached to the inner lining of the waist band of the trousers, to engage over the female member, when the belt is drawn tight about Y fthe trousers,
thereby holding and supporting the trousers in proper position.
While the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical form` for commercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible of changes, and the right to these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
YThe invention comprises further features and combination of parts as will be hereinafter set forth, shown /n the drawings and claimed. i Y
In the-drawingszp 'Figure l is a view showing the application of the improved garment supporter constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view online 2 2 of Figure l, showing how the supporter is connected to the shirt, anldhowv a portion of the supporter engages under the strap of the trousers. A
Figure 3 is a perspective lview of the male 'and female member of the garment supporter as applied to the shirt.
Figure l is a detail perspective view ofa portion of the trousers showing the strip or strap 'as applied to the inner lining of the Waist band. v
Figure 5 vis a detail perspective view of the male member of the supporter.
Figure 6 is a sectional View through the femaleA member of the supporter.
Figure 7 is a View of a portion of a pair of-trousers and a portion of a shirt extending thereinto, with a portion'of the trousers cut away showing the male fastenerin dotted lines behind the shirt, the f female fastenerin section, with the supporting stri-p engaged between the shirt and the-female fastener. f
Referring'to the drawings, 1 designates a portion of a shirt lor other garment and 2 designates a portion of a garment to be supported, preferably a pair of trousers, andl 3 and 4 designate the male and female members of the supporter.
The male member is substantially in the form of a button, comprising a base 5, which is of a relatively large diameter, and extending from one face of the base is a contracted shank 6 terminating in a head 7 which is ,of a diameter relatively less than the diameter Vof the base 5. The female member is in the form of a ring, considerably larger in diameter than the base 5 of the male member, and is relatively thick and has an opening 9 vof a diameter relativelyL less than the diameter of the head, it being necessary to stretch the ring, to make the opening telescope or itover the head of the shank, particularly when the shirt is stretched over the head of the male member.
In order to fasten` the supporter lto the shirt, the malemember is disposed on one side of the shirt, the head of the shank is Specification of Letters Patent.` Patented Appr, 25, 1922. ,Y
engaged with the shirt, the shirt material is Y held about the shank, then the head of the shank with the shirt material over the saine is forced through the opening ofthe ring, thereby holding the trousers from slipping and preventing the shirt from pulling out of the trousers. The ring is placed on the exterior of Ythe shirt, While the malevmember is placed on the interior of the shirt. A short fabric strap or band l0 is stitched or otherwise fastened to the lining of the Waist band of the trousersand is designed to engage with the ring, disposed on the er;- terior of the shirt,- and though a usual belt is employed for tightening the waistband of the trousers, at a point above the ringof a supporter7 the belt may be eliminated and the Waist band of the trousers drawn tight. thereby allowing the trousers to be supported so as not to slip down as to prevent the shirt from pulling out. However the belt is preferably7 usedv in order to insure holding the trousers sufficiently up over the edges of the ring. The strapon the inner face of the trousers is designed to engage the ringof the supporter. hence insuring supporting the trousers. The male and female members of the garment supporter may be constructed of any suitable pliable or yieldable material preferably rubberi so that the ring may be stretched over the head of the shank of the button,'when placed under the shirt, and also to prevent tearing of the shirt or the inner surface of the trousers.
It is to Vbe understood that the tape or strip l() may be placed at any suitable location on the'inside4 of the trousers. It may be 'strip 10 is shovvn as being located on the trousers ata point below the belt 2a, While in Figure 7 the tape or strip is disposed so that the button may slip in place directly inside of the belt line, in other Words so that the belt Will engage directly over the fastener and over the tape, to insure supporting the trousers and holding the shirt down. p Y
The tape and the fastener or support may be located so as to be Worn directly over the hip bone, or in front of the same, as may be found best suited to the wearer.
rlfhe invention having been set forth, what is claimed as being useful is:
l. In combination a strap secured to the inner surface of a Waist band of a garment to be supported, a headed member of pli- Aable material, and an apertured member adapted to engage over the headed member and under the strap. 2. In a garment supporter 1n combination a strap secured to the inner surface of the waist bandr of the garment to be supported,y
a male member having a pliablevheady and a reduced neck7 and a flexible female member having an aperture smaller than the head and adapted to receive said head, said y l female member adapted to be engaged under the strap.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix Amy signature.
