To (6U whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES R. lVILLIAMs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at' Courtney, in the county of \Vashington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in PapenHanging and easily applied to walls and similar sur' faces? in strips. A further object is to provide a machine of the character stated by means of which the paste is applied to the paper by the act of drawing the machine along the strip of paper, the paper being simultaneouslyapplied to the wall surface. Further objects will appear from the detailed description.

The machine comprises a hoxlilre casing 1 which is divided by a partition '2 into a pastereceiving compartment 3 and a brush compartment 4. A brush 5 is rotatably mounted in compartment 4, this brush being secured upon a shaft 6 rotatably mounted through the side walls of the casing and provided at one end with a crank-handle The partition 2 is provided with an opening 8 to permit paste which is placed in.
the compartment 3 to flow into the brush compartment 4.. This paste collects in the lower rounded end portion 1 of the casing so that the lower portion. of the brush is immersed in the paste. The upper end of casing 1 is provided with a suitable opening, normally closed by a plug 9, to per mit the paste to be poured into compartment 3. A suitable handle 10 is secured to the lower endof the casing to facilitate manipulation of the same.
The top of the casing is closed by a sheet metal guide and paper receiving member 11 member 11, and durin such of rectangular cross-section. This member is provided at each end wlth a downwardly projecting flange 12 having bayonet slots 13 which engage about headed pins 14 secured to the end wall of the casing. This provides simple and efficient means whereby guide I member llmay be readily secured to, or
detached from, the casing, thisguide member also providing a closure for the casing.
At its upper end the guide member 11 is provided with lateral forwardly projecting arms 15 which-rotatably support a roller 16 for'rolling out or smoothing the paper as it is applied to the wall surface. Through its inner wall guide 11 is provided with an opening 17 through which the upper portion of the bristles-of brush 5 project for contact with a strip 18 of through the guide member ll. v

During insertion of the strip brush 5 is rotated by movement of the paper strip so as to cause paste to be applied to the underface 'ofthe paper.
