. Patented Mar. 24, 1931 MERRILL BENNETT, or HILLSBORO, NEW nantrsnmn CIGARETTE mono Application filed April 18,
My invention relates to an attachment for tobacco receptacles and more particularly a cigarette mold.
It is an object of the invention to provide a cigarette mold for forming cigarettes which is detachably associated with a tobacco can or thelike. j
A further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette mold detachably associated with a tobacco can which will enable the purchaser of the tobacco to readily form cigarettes with the tobacco in the can in a more eificient manner than the method nowemployed. 1
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above-mentioned charac ter, which is simple'and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in use, and inexensive to manufacture.
advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, 7 v
Fig. 1, is a fragmentary front elevation of a tobacco can with my invention applied thereto, r r
Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the same, Fig. 3, is an end view of the same, Fig. 4, is a longitudinal sectional view of the same and,
Fig. 5, is a section Fig; 4. 7
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration,I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 denotes a conventional type of tobacco can hav- 6, at its upper taken on lines 5- 5 of end.
, Referring more particularly to myinvention alongitudinal body or trough of semicircular shape in cross section is formed from The ends 8 of the trough are circular in shape and extend beyond the longitudinal marginal edges of the trough. The trough is substantially the same length ,as the cover6 of the can and when applied to the can is inverted and placed on top'of 1929. Serial No. 356,048.
the cover so that one of the ends 8 extends down over the end of the cover while the other end is inserted in the transverse slot 9 forimed in thetop of the cover adjacent one en t The moldis detachably held in place by thelug 10 struck upwardly from the top of the cover adjacent the end of the cover, opposite to the end in which the slot 9 is formed. The lug is substantially rectangular in shape, the ends of the lug being beveled, as at 11, to provide projecting points-12, adapted to be resiliently engaged by the sides of the mold when the mold is placed over the lug.
In use, the mold maybe readily removed from the cover of the tobacco can by apply ing lug. The cigarette paper is then placed in the trough and filled with tobacco and the edges of the paper sealed in the well known manner.
paper can be filled to the extreme ends.
, It isto be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to'be taken as a preferred exampleof the same and that certain changes in the shape, size and arrangementof the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims. 1
Having thus claim I 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a tobacco can, of a longitudinal trough adapted to be disposed onthe cover of the can, and means integral with the cover detachably securing said trough thereto. r 7
2.;In a device of the character described, the combination with a tobacco can, of a longitudinal trough adaptedto be disposed on the cover of the can, and a lug integral described my invention, I
a slight pressure to the end adjacent the Thus, it is seen that the mold en ables theuser to form a more. perfect cigarette, as the tobacco can be more compactly packed without breaking the paper and the with the cover adapted to be resiliently engaged' by the side of the trough.
3. In 'a'device of :the character described, 7
the combination with a tobacco can having a cover provided with a transverse-slot adjacent one end, of a trough adapted to be disposed on the cover having its ends projecting beyond the longitudinal marginal edges of the trough, one of said ends being adapted to be'inserted in said slot, and a lug struckv up from the cover adapted to be resiliently engaged by the sides of said trough releas ably holding the trough on thecover. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MERRILL BENNETT.
