and a locking pawl or detent which, when the last cartridge of the magazine has been spent and the latter has been drawn out of the pistol, acts to retain the breech-slide in is rearmost position.

The object of my invention is to provide a pistol of the kind in which the magazine holder is utilized to act or serve as a double spring for both the detent and the hammer. To this end the inner or upper end of the magazine holder is shaped to form a double or two-armed spring having a wider arm for the hammer and a narrower arm for the I detent. To allow of an extreme width to be given to the former the two arms or springs are disposed in staggered relation that is to say, in juxtaposition and the one displaced in advance or in front of the other. In the old art locking pawls or detents were usually mounted on pins which are rigidly and undetachably connected with the gripstock, so that neither the pin nor said detent could be removed for repair or for any other reason without dismounting at the same time the pistol in all its constituent parts. In order to do away with this inconvenience and to afford at the same time an easy way for properly mounting the detent and its spring so that they are in correct engagement, the said detent or locking pawl is carried by a detachable pin having a head which, when properly mounted lies flush with the face of the grip-stock in a recess made for the purpose in one of the lateral guiding ribs for the breech-slide. Hence on removal of the breech-slide there is no difii culty in removing the pin and the detent from the grip-stock and mounting same again so that they are duly engaged for cor rect coaction,

In the pistol shown the breech-slide a is guided on the grip-stock b. Upon firing the said slide runs backwards or recoils acting thereby to eject the empty cartridge, to cock the hammer 0 and, on its return to the inward or forward position, to introduce a fresh cartridge from the magazine into the barrel. In order to secure the magazine in its position within the handle of the pistol a holder dis provided, as usual, having a nose 6 at the lower or outer end to lock the bottom plate of the magazine and to thereby hold the magazine in its proper position within the handle. The magazine holder is inserted in a recess 2' of a downwardly pro jectin'g part of the grip-stock. According to my invention the said holder comprises a wide resilient arm or spring f for the hammer a and a narrow resilient arm or spring 9 for the locking pawl or detent it. The two arms or springs f and g are disposed in staggered relation o displaced sideways one above or in front of the other (see Figures 3 and 4) whereby the aforeside advantages are obtained.

The locking pawl or detent it is pivotally mounted in the rear part of the grip-stock 'b and had a lateral projection or nose m at its rear end. The front end 0 of said detent or pawl projects into the opening'for the magazine and is kept in an elevated position by the magazine against the action of the resilient arm or spring 9, so that the said.

According to my invention the pawl or detent is mounted on a removable pin 7; having its front end shaped so as to form a head 1 which, when the pin is being inserted in the two holes provided for the purpose of the grip-stock, engages in a correspondingly shaped recess out in the guiding rib 1" of the grip-stock, so as to be in countersunk relation with the grip-stock. The head of the pin p is cutaway or recessed at s, Figure 9, so that a small tool or the like may easily be brought in engagement therewith to lift and remove the pin from its seat in the gripstock. i I claim as my invention 1. In a recoil-loading pistol, the combination of a barrel, a grip-stock, a breechslide guided on said grip-stock, a hammer, a pawl or detent for looking said breech-slide in its rear position, a cartridge magazine, and a holder locking the magazine in the pistol handle and comprising two resilient arms or springs in engagement withthe said hammer and the said detent respectively.

In a recoil-loading pistol, the combination of a barrel, a grip-stock, a breechslide, a hammer, a detent, a cartridge magazine, and a holder for the magazinehaving two juxtaposed resilient arms or sprin s, one arranged in advance of the other, one spring mounted to exert pressure on the hammer, and the other spring to exert pressure on the detent.

In a recoil-loading pistol, the combination, with a breech-slide, a detent for holding it in its rear position, and a hammer, of a magazine holder having two resilient arms or springs of different lengths disposed one in advance of the other; the longer spring being arranged to engage the detent, and the shorter spring, arranged to engage the hammer, substantially as described and shown.

In a recoil-loading pistol, the combination of a barrel, a grip-stock, a breech.- slide, a hammer, a pawl or detent for locking said breech-slide, a cartridge magazine, a holder for securing the magazine in place having two resilient arms or springs for engaging the hammer and the detent, and a removable pin oarrying'said pawl or detent.

5. In a recoil-loading pistol, the combination of a barrel, a grip-stock, a breechslide, a hammer, a detent for locking said breech-slide, a magazine, a holder for se curing the magazine in place having two resilient arms or springs for engaging the hammer and the detent respectively, and a removable pincarrying said detent and having a head in countersunk relation to the said grip-stock.
