EXERCISlNG APPARATUS. APPLICATION NEED MAY 3, 1921.

I a citizen of the United States, of Boston,

GHABLES E. LINCOLN, 033 BOSTON, MASSACHU$ETTS.
EXERCISING APPARATUS,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. llll, 31922.
Application filed may 3, 1921. Serial No. 466,505.
To all whom it may com-cm:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. LiNcoLN, and a resident in the county of Massachusetts, have invented anew and Improved Exercising Apparatus. of which the following is '21 full, clear, and exact description. l
This invention relates to improvements in exercising apparatus, an object oi the invention being to provide a resilient device which may be held in the hand of an operator and squeezed to exercise the muscles of the fingers and wrists.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an exercising apparatus of this character, which may be conveniently carried in the pocket of a user, which will take up a comparatively small space, which will be simple and practical in construction, strong and durable .inuse, and exceedingly inexpensive to manufacture.
\Vith these and'other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:- 7
Figure- 1 is a perspective view illustrating the manner of use of my improved exercising apparatus;
Figure 2 is a view am y l igurc '3 is a view in longitudinal section tlmrcthrough.
Referring in detail to the drawings. 1. 1 represent a pair oi hollow pneumatic balls. These balls are enclosed within a casing 2 which may be oi any flexiblematerial, but which is preferably of thin rubber or leather.
A relatively stiff collor 3 encircles the casin elevation thereof;
of Sutlolk and State the casing,
ing 2 and is interposed between the balls 1, the collar servi g to space the balls apart. Although I do not wish to be limited to any particular material for the collar, l have found that one or more convolutions of adhesive tape are etlective in this connection.
The manner of use of the apparatus is illustrated in Figure l. The apparatus 13 placed in the palm of the hand and squeezed. One of the balls is squeezed against the palm of the hand by the middle finger, fourth finger and little finger oi the operator and the other ball is squeezed between'the index finger and the thumb. The device will prove very effective for exercising all of the muscles of the hand and wrist.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the .parts described without departing, from the invention and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
lfifrn exereisiirc, apparatus of the character described, including an elastic casing, a pair of rubber balls in the casing, and means spacing; the rubber balls apart, said last mentioned means comprising a relatively still collar restricting the central portion of the casing.
2. As a new article of manufacture, an exercising apparatus including; aliexible casing, a pair ol resilient balls of equal size in and a collar encircling and rcstricting the ccntral portion of the casing and spacing the balls apart.
CHARLES E. LINCOLN.
