Description

1942. G. T. SULLIVAN I EXERCISING DEVICE Filed Sept.- 5, 1941 g Inventor Q 8 fio/rm J' ,JZ(///Vd/7 Attorney Patented Jan. 27, 1942 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EXERCISING DEVICE George Thomas Sullivan, Omaha, Nebr.
Application September 3, 1941, Serial No. 409,404
2 Claims. (Cl. 27268) exercises.
To the accomplishment of the above, and the subordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of my invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing: I
Figurel is a view in front elevation of the preferred embodiment of my invention illustrating the manner in which it is grasped by the hands.
Figure 2 is a view in side edge elevation.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, my improved exercising device in the illustrated embodiment thereof comprises a skeleton frame of flat suitably rigid material, such as plastic, including an arcuate finger grip plate I having spaced along its outer edge round bottom finger accommodating notches 2 which are preferably spaced further apart successively toward the one for accommodating the little finger. A pair of side arms 3 extend from the inner edge of the plate I and merge into a thumb grip plate 4 having a thumb accommodating round bottom notch 5 in its outer edge. The thumb grip plate 4 is ofiset to one side of the center of the arc on which the finger grip plate I is formed to dispose the thumb accommodating notch 5 at the side of the hand upon which the thumb is located. The side arms 3 are offset inwardly from the ends of the finger grip plate 2 and from the sides of the thumb grip plate 4 to reduce the width of the device between said plates and thereby render the same less bulky and more convenient to handle.
The described device is designed for use in pairs, grasped in the hands with the fingers gripped around the finger grip plate l and in the finger accommodating notches 2 and the thumbs similarly holding the thumb grip plates 4.
The fingers and thumbs may then be tensed against the devices and various different exercises thus performed to strengthen the fingers, thumbs, and the entire handand forearm as will be clear. I
By having the finger accommodating notches 2 spaced in the manner described, those fingers which separate from the other less readily, i. e., the middle finger and third finger, are rendered more supple in that respect.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention without further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention, as described, is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claims.
What I claim is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a hand exercising device to be clasped in the hand comprisinga skeleton frame of fiat material including an arcuate finger grip plate provided with outer edge notches for accommodating the fingers 4 therein, a pair of side arms extending from the inner edge of said plate in converging relation,
tion, and a thumb grip 'plate forming an exten-. sion of said side arms and provided with an outer edge thumb accommodating notch therein, said" thumb grip plate being offset to one side of the center of the are on which the finger grip plate is formed to thereby dispose the same at the thumb side of the hand when the same is grasped in said hand.
GEORGE THOMAS SULLIVAN.
