Description

J1me 1932- A. H. ARoNsoN FINGER AND HAND PROTECTOR Filed July 25-, 1950 Patented June 21, 1932 V ALEXANDER H. Anonson', OF nnwARmNnw {J RSEY FINGER AND HAND PROTECTOR- Application filed July 23,
This invention relates to improvements in finger and hand protectors and more particu larly to devices designed to protect the fingers and hands from becoming blistered during the playing of physical games, such as golf, tennis, baseball and the like, and to prevent injury to those portions of the fingers and hand which contact with the golf stick, tennis racket, bat or the like, and which are subj ected to rubbing in playing such games.
Heretofore, it has been common practice for golfers and tennis players to tape the fingers and hand to prevent blistering and it has also been common practice to use gloves for the same purpose. 7
The use of gloves deprives the hand of the necessary ventilation, and taping the fingers causes tension and is annoying. Both the use of gloves and taping interfere with the free, natural movement of the fingers in playing, and the removal of the tape after it has been applied to the fingers is troublesome and annoymg.
The object of my invention is to provide a device which is adapted to be readily and conveniently applied and removed from the fingers and the hand, can be conveniently carried, effectively prevents injury and blistering of the fingers or hands and does not interfere with the natural movement of the same, to which it is applied.
The device, in its preferred form, comprises a resilient band, preferably made of thin rubber, such as is used in the manufacture of rubber finger-stalls and gloves, or of elastic material, to which is secured, in any desired or convenient manner, a protective covering, which, in its preferred form may consist of felt, cloth, tape, or the like.
It will be readily seen that the construction described enables the user to bend his fingers in a natural manner, without interference and annoyance.
My invention may be used in the palm of the hand, or on any joint of any finger, or any part of any joint, including the finger tip, and the elasticity of the band enables the device to be snugly applied to the fingers interchangeably, obviating the necessity of 1930; Serial n. 469,967.
different sizes and shapes for the-.varioususes.
These and other objects ofmy invention, which will later appear, are accomplished bythefsimple, inexpensive and practical construction and arrangement of partshereinafter described and shown in theac'companying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein:
' Fig.1 represents 'a perspective view of a hand, showing-one form of my device secured to two fingers thereof,I i 5 Fig.2 representsa modified form of my i nvention, designed for application to the palm of, the hand, l
i F ig.j'3 represents another modified form of my invention,
Fig. 4 represents two of the devices shown in Fig. 3 applied to one finger,
Fig. 5 represents an end View of the form of my invention illustrated in Fig 1, and
Fig. 6 represents a transverse sectional view taken on lines 6'6 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
In the drawing, I have shown the preferred form of my invention in Fig. 1, which comprises a resilient band 1, preferably made of rubber, elastic or other suitable material, to the outside of which a protective covering 2, preferably consisting of felt-covered fabric or the like, is secured, in any desired or convenient manner, as, for instance, by the use of cement.
The band 1 is so arranged on the finger to which it is applied that the strip 2 will be positioned over the portion of the finger to be protected, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
i nother form of my invention is shown in Fig. 3, comprising two relatively narrow, resilient bands 3, connected by a body portion 3, to which body portion a protective covering 4 is secured, the material of the bands 3 and covering at being similar to the material of the band 1 and protective covering 2, preferably. The bands 3 present a convenient arran gement, inasmuch as they may be arranged at divergent angles to each other to embrace various parts of the finger to which the device is applied. The air space between the bands provides ventilation for the finger.
Several ofthe devices shown in Figs. 1 and making the device of l A I 1,863,960
3 may be secured to a finger when it is desired to protect more than one'joint of the finger.
For use in connection with the palm of the 5 hand, I have provided the modified form of my invention shown in Fig. 2, comprising the wide band 5, to the outside of which a protective covering 6 is secured, the band and pro- 7 tective covering being preferably of the same 10 material as that of the band 1 and protective covering 2 in the preferred form of my invention. a
The foregoing description isto be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and notas restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously many modifications mavl be made without departing from the spiritv and scope of the invention, as denoted in the appended claim. 2 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is: x i A A device for protecting the joint of a finger without interfering with the natural 5 movement of the 'finger, comprising a band of elastic material anda protective strip of fabric of the same width as the band, but of less length than the semi-circumference of the band, secured to the outside of the band. This specification signed this 18th day of July, 1930.
ALEXANDER ARONSON.
