Description
P 1967 A. c. BELLAMY ARCHER'S FINGER PROTECTORS Filed Dec. 22, 1965 //v VIiN'IOR.
ALBERT c. BELLAMY FIGS United States Patent Ofifice 3,343,177 Patented Sept. 26, 1967 3,343,177 ARCHERS FINGER PROTECTORS Albert C. Bellamy, Rte. 3, Clarksville, Tenn. 37040 Filed Dec. 22, 1965, Ser. No. 515,589 Claims. (Cl. 221) My invention is directed toward archers finger protectors or tabs which when used by archers facilitate the smooth release of the bowstring and arrow.
It is an object of my invention to provide new and improved archers finger protectors which are individually applied to each of the fingers used in drawing the bowstring and which simultaneously protect the fingers and facilitate smooth release of bowstring and arrow.
Another object is to provide new and improved archers finger protectors of the character indicated which resist abrasion and wearing action normally produced by movement of the bowstring.
Still another object is to provide new and improved archers finger protectors of the character indicated which is inexpensive to manufacture and simple to use.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of my invention will now be explained with reference both to this specification and to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my protector;
FIG. 2 is a top view thereof;
FIG. 3 is a cross section through 33 in FIG. 4;
FIG. 4 is a side view thereof;
FIG. 5 is an end view thereof; and
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of my invention in use.
Referring now to FIGS. 16, my improved archers finger guards for the first three fingers 10, 12 and 14 of the shooting hand 16 which pulls the bow string 18 consists of a rubber hollow cylinder or body 1, a layer of thicker rubber 2 which covers the first joint of the finger where the bow string is held, and a thin layer of tough synthetic cloth 3 which protects the rubber pad over the first joint of the finger and prevents the rubber from being abrased and worn by the action of the bow strings. The integral parts are securely bonded together to prevent any separation of such parts. Integral parts 2 and 3 cover approximately /3, of the circumference of the body 1.
The body 1 which fits over finger is heavy rubber similar to that used in good quality rubber gloves. The principal protection 2 for the finger tips is heavier rubber similar to that found in tire tube patching. The thin but tough coating 3 of plastic cloth prevents the action of the bow string from wearing and abrasing the rubber patch 2. A small flat rubber cuff 4 of the same material as the body 1 is used to protect the leading edge and strengthen it for that portion which does not coincide with parts 2 and 3. A second small fiat rubber culf 5 of the same grade of rubber as the body 1 is on the inside I of the body 1 at the rear edge which adds additional gripping power to prevent the guard from slipping off the finger when the bow string is released and therein exerts a forward drag.
There is a beveling efiect where part 2 is joined to 1 and 3.
The finger guards will be made in various sizes to fit all size hands.
While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings, my protection is to be limited only by the terms of the claims which follow.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. An archers finger protector comprising a hollow flexible rubber cylinder open at both ends and adapted to receive the first three joints of a finger, a first layer of thicker rubber disposed peripherally about the outer surface of the cylinder in the region of that portion thereof covering the first finger joint but having a peripheral space between opposite ends of the first layer, and a second layer of the synthetic cloth overlying said first layer.
2. A protector as set forth in claim 1 further including a first flat rubber cuff secured to said peripheral space.
3. A protector as set forth in claim 2 further including a second fiat rubber cuff secured to the inside of said cylinder at an end opposite to that supporting said first cuff.
4. A protector as set forth in claim 3 wherein said first layer has a bevelled peripheral edge extending between the second layer and the cylinder.
5. A protector as set forth in claim 4 wherein all parts are bonded together.
