ToV all'wlzo'nz't may concern:
l Be it-lrnown that 'LJOHN A. MATTsoN, a citizen of Sweden, residinv at Chicago, .in thegcount'y of Cook andj tateI of Illinois, have invented certain new and'useiul Improvementsfin vRoof Carriages, of which thev following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to improvements in roof carriages'and its chief object 1s to provide a carriage adapted to travel over inclined building roofs to carry building ma'- terial or other material from place to place upon the roof, orrrom side to side, end to end of the roof,etc. The carriageis so constructed and assembled as to permit its adjustment to Vsuit roofs of various inclinations or pitches and to permit its adjustment in other ways,- to be hereinafter set forth, to suit the general lay of the roof. lVithl the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this speciication and in which- Fig. 1 is a Jfront view of my improved roof Vcarriage illustrating its application.
Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. V1.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view of the carriage itself. Y
Fig. 5 is a side View of Fig. 4, partly in section, the sectioned portion beingtaken on line 5.-5 of Fig. 4:..
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views. i
The reference numeral 1V denotes inclined 40.77roof beams transversely of which the channel beams 2 extend.' Y `My roof carriage is adaptedto travel over the roof upon the channel beams 2. The carriage comprises an outer -main- Jframe 3 substantially Vf shaped, the closed end of the frame being olfset; The sides of the frame 3 are formed with the longitudinal slots 4 through which the set screws -extend that adjustably con- -nect the upper ends of the brace bars 6 to said frame, the lower ends of said bars G being connected by set screws 7 to the lower sections 8`of the legs 8, 9, said leg sections telescopingone into the other and being adjustably connected together by set Specification of Letters'Patent. `.Patented APL Application filed December 11, 1918. Seria1'No.266,288.g
screws l0, the upper leg-sections .9 directly supporting the openrend of .the frameY 3.4 The lower-legsections- 8 are directly bolted shaped casting 1-1 formed with a longito and supported by an' elongated link-fftudinal central slot 12, saidl casting in the ends of its longitudinally :slotted portion beingp'rovided with the llanged wheels'13 adapted to run overthe channel beams 2.H
Adjacent each wheel 13 apiyot-11is carried by the casting` 11 and upon said pivotan.- i
angle pieceV 15 is carried whichV extends be-.
low the flange of the'l whe'el'13'Y and is disposed upon the opposite sidel of the beam 2 with respect to the wheel' flange. The purpose of the said angle piece'is to` prevent the wheel riding off the beam. The angle shownY in full lines, Fig. 2, to its position shownin dotted Llines to acco-mmodate the to a slidingv auxiliary frame-18, said frame 18 in its sliding movement moving the bolts 21, 22 back and 'forth inthe slotted portions spectively, in said slots connect the runway 19, 2O ofthe runwayt The runwayat one end is connected directly tothesides ofthe frame3 and at its outer end it is supportedl f by the inclined braces 165V which run Atothe link 11. The bolts 22 carry acasting 23 which extends transversely of the auxiliaryV frame' and which is connected to one end ofY saidvframe by the axis 211 of a lianged wheel f 25 adaptedlto run upon the channel beams 2. The purpose Yof. the sliding auxiliary@75d`YY` VV frame 18 is to adjust the wheel 25relatively:
to the wheels13 to permit the carriage to 'travel over channel'beams2 of'varying distances apart. VTo the end fof. the ,auxiliary frame adjacent the wheel 25 I -secure an angular guard 26 which projectsbelow the flange ofthe wheel into close proximity'to the channel beam and serves'to yprevent the wheelv from riding oli' the beam. The
The frame 3 is kept level regardless ot' the relative differences in height of the beains 2 over which the carriage is running by means of tlie telescoping legs 8, 9 which, obviouslyJ are readily adjusted to raise or lower the open end of the frame. The material to be transportediupon the carriage is placed directly upon the frames 3, 18, or either of them, and the' carriage then manually pushed along the roof by one or two menV Who Walk upon the roof beams balancing` themselves by means of the carriage. The Work carriedY may be piled vagainst the arms 27 lsupported by the braces 28 which adjustably secure them tothe frame 3 as shown;
Vhatis claimed is z*- l; In a carriage, a V-shaped frame, legs adjustably supporting the open end of said rame, a Wheeled carrier for said legs, a`
Inl testimony that Iz clairn the foregoing as my own I? have hereto aiixed f my signa# presence of twosubscribing:
ture in the witnesses.
