W'ORKINGMAN S GARMENT,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1922.
Application filed. August 10, 1920. Serial No. 402,617.
To all 107mm may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon \VILLIAM /i'nsvnn, a citizen of the United States, ire-- qsiding at St. Joseph, in the county of Budown without the wearer taking off the entire upper part of the garment, the drop seat portion being cut in such a way that it answers the same purpose the one-piece garment with the closed back, yet making it entirely convenient when necessary to drop the seat portion. In the present improve ment the seat portion does not drop from the waistband as heretofore, yet it makes a neat fitting and appearing garment readily put on or taken oif and one that is not liable to become damaged under heavy strains.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims. The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a front View showing the garment in position upon the body of the wearer, with one of the suspender straps detached.
Figure 2 is a rear View showing the seat portion dropped.
Figure 3 is a rear View showing the seat portion in its normal position. 1
Figure et is a detail showing the opening att-he side and the entrance to the side pocket. Like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the different views.
Referring to the drawings, 1, 1 designate the legs of the trousers portion, and 2 the belt or waistband portion to which is attached the coat portion 3 by suitable lines of stitching. The coat portion is provided with pockets 4 which, in this instance, are shown as provided with flaps 5 secured in position by buttons and button-holes 6, while 7 are buttons at the top of the flap portions, as seen in Figure l, and with which are designed to be engaged the fastening means on the ends ofthe Suspender straps. These suspender straps S are designed to extend over the shoulders, being crossed at the back of the garment and provided at their free ends with suitable means, as 9, for readv detachable engagement with the buttons at the front.
The suspender straps 8 are continuous of the drop seat portion 10 Which is integral with the leg portions 1 at the rear, as seen in Figures 2 and 3, being separated therefrom at the sides from a point a consider able distance below the waistband, as at 11, see Figure 2, and provided along the sides 12 with buttons 13 adapted to be engaged in the button-holes 14 in the side portions 15, as seen in Figures 2 and 3.
The coat portion is provided with a collar 16 and with buttons and button-holes 1'7 and 18 down the front, the opening thus formed being an upward continuation of the fly portionl9, as seen in Figure 1, which is provided with button and button-holes 20.
The garment is provided at the rear with pockets 21 which are carried by the drop seat portion 10, as seen best in Figure The portions 15 which are provided with the button-holes 14 are provided each with a side poo :et 22, as seen in Figures 1 and 2, the entrance thereto being formed between the portion 15 and the adjacent portion 23 of the leg of the garment.
In practice, after the garment has been put on, the suspender straps are placed over the shoulders and the fastcnings 9 engaged with the buttons 7 and the sides of the drop seat portion secured by engaging the buttons 13 with the button-holes 14- and the garment retained in position. When it is desired to drop the drop seat portion, the fastenings 9 are disengaged from the buttons 7, the buttons 18 are disengaged from the buttonholes 14, when the drop seat portion falls into the posit-ion shown in Figure 2. Vhen in closed position, the drop seat portion overlaps the lower end of the rear of the coat portion and answers the same purpose as the one-piece garment with the closed back. The cast-ofi' drop sea-t feature of the construction is deemed most essential, particularly as it drops from a portion a considerable distance below the waistband.
The crossing of the Suspender portions 8 and their connection with the seat portions causes any pull on, the shoulder portions of the garment tobe transmitted to and counteracted by the waistband 2.
While the structure hereinbefore described .is what is deemed at the present time the most preferable way of carrying out the 1n' vention, it is evident that the same is subject to changes, variations and modifications in 10 detail, pro-portion of parts, etc, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages. It is, therefore, not intended to restrict the claims to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, but the right is reserved to make such changes, variations and modifications as come properly Within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is v l. A garment oi the character described,
embodying a trousers portion, a coat portion and a drop seat portion arranged to drop at a point considerably below the waistband and extended above the bottom of the coat drop seat portion the coatportion having means at the front for detachable engagement with means on the suspender straps.
2. A garment embodying a trousers portion with a. drop seat portion, means attached to said drop seat portion for supporting it, a coat portion having pockets on the ,front thereof, closures for said pockets, and
buttons on said closures for detachable connection with sald supporting means.
In testimony Whereoi'I affix my signature.
enonen WILLIAM WEAVER.
