To all wim/n it mag/'concern I Beit known that I, EDWARD M.A Mo- NAMARA, a citizen of the United lStates of America, and a resident of Chicago, 1n the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have y1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Holders and VVringers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that' class of household mops in which the structure 1s the-mopping material in a rapid andcon'-V venient manner,and the ypresent improve-l ment has for its 0bjects: a
To provide a structural formation and association of the carrying frame and the mop carryingl roller, whereby an effective wringing of the mop material is attained.
To provide a' formation and combination To'prolvide a structural formation of the mop carrying drum whereby the fluid removed in a wringing operation is directedv outwardly awayfrom and clear'of the mop material, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.

In the present construction the wringing of the mop material 7 is effected by a revolution of the drum 4 to attain a windingup of the mop materialuponits periphery, and,
to carry said material through the restricted space between the periphery of the drum and under edge of the main transverse bar of the supporting frame 1 to attain aneffective compressive o-r squeezing action upon the mop material at such point. In the preferred construction shown in Fig. 2, the for'- wa'rdedge 1 of the transverse bar of the frame 1, is 'arranged in closer relation to the` peripheryof the drum 4 than the rearedge l of``said transverse bar, so that in a wringing movement of the drum or roller 4 the edge 1 will bear upon the passing mop material and eXert a squeezing or squeegee action upon the same to very effectively re- -move the liquid therefrom. Witha turning movement of the drum V4 in a reverse direction, the edge 1 acts to'hold the mop material'so that the lportion of said material between its' attaching fold and the edge 1 will bank upl and become loosened for effective moppingpurposes in confined places.

In a combined mop and wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a central socket, a transverse bar at one end of said socket and depending journal ears at 'the ends of said bar, a drum revolubly mounted in said ears in operative relation to said transverse bar so that the bar will have direct squeezing action upon the mop material as the drum is rotated, means for connecting the mop material to the drum, and means for imparting rotation to the drum, the aforesaid transverse bar having an arched form next adjacent to the drum and adapted to effect increased squeezing pressure on the side portions of the mop material as said drum is rotated.
7. In a combined mop and wringer, the combination of a frame having a transverse bar and end prongs, sliding bars mounted in said prongs and having journal eyes at their lower ends, a spring tending to move said bars in one direction, a drum arranged between the prongs aforesaid in operative relation to said transverse bar and having diametric channels formed in its respective ends, a connecting means between the frame and drum comprising a longitudinal rod having adjacent relation to the periphery of the drum and providing an attaching means for the mop material, angular extensions at the respectiveends of said rod adapted for engagement in the aforesaid end channels of the drum, journal portions extending at right angles from said extensions, and an operating lever attached to one of said journal portions.
8. In a combined mop and wringer, the combination of a frame comprising a central socket, a transverse bar at one end of said socket and depending journal ears at the ends of said bar, a drum revolubly mounted in said ears in operative relation to said transverse bar so that the bar will have direct squeezing action upon the mop material as the drum is rotated, said drum having a longitudinal recess in its periphery, a longitudinally extending rod associated with said recess for holding the mop material in place, and means for imparting rotation to the drum.
