HOWARD C. NOBLE, OF NEVJ BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIG-NCR TO NORTH 86 JUDD MANUFACTURING COMPANY, 01? NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
ANTIRATTLER FOR WINDOW SASI-IES.
Application filed January 13, 1921.
To all whom if; may concern:
Be it known that HOWARD C. NOBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antirattlers for Window Sashes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to what I shall for convenience term an anti-rattler for window sashes. The invention is capable of general use. It is a matter of fact that if a sash is loose in its frame, it is subject to vibration or chatter which creates an objectionable noise and it is one of the primary purposes of my invention to provide a device which is simple in construction, capable of inexpensive manufacture and which can be readily applied and as easily taken off and which when in effective position will effectually prevent any jarring motion of a sash.
In the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present specification, I have shown in detail one of the several forms of embodiment of the invention which to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same will be set forth fully in the following description. Obviously I am not restricted to this disclosure. I may depart therefrom in several respects within the scope of the invention defined by the claims following said description.
Referring to said drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sash and its frame, an anti-rattler involving the invention being shown as associated with th sash and as being in set relation.
Fig. 2 is a face view of an anti-rattler.
' Fig. 3 is a side or edge view of the device.
Like characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, it being noted that Fig. 1 is on a much smaller scale than Figs. 2 and The article comprises in its construction a body insertible between a window sash and its frame to prevent rattle of the sash when the body is in working relation. This body may take various forms. Excellent results have been secure-d by making the body of such character that it will have a wedge ac- Speeification of Letters Patent.

tion on the sash when it is in active relation, the body being generally inserted between the sash and its frame.
In Fig. 1 I have shown a window frame 2 and a sash as 3 vertically slidable. The anti-rattler involves as shown a body as 4 in the form of a solid wedge. This wedgelike body f is generally made of aluminum or some such substance but there may be instances where it may be hollow and of sheet metal and made otherwise than as rep resented. Its sides as shown are parallel.
As illustrated the body is provided with a manipulating portion or handle as 6 which as shown extends at an angle to the wedge body a, being dished or concaved as at 7 on the upper or front side thereof and bulged or convexed as at 8 on its under or rear side. The handle 6 is desirably but not essentially at an obtuse angle to the body 4 and on its front side is furnished at its forward and rear ends with the transverse arcuate beads 6 and 6 extending entirely across the same. The front dished side of the handle or manipulating portion is stippled or roughened as at 10 and it may as shown carry an ornament or some insignia such as the anchor 12 which is generally made in cameo form. Said handle may also have a perforation or hole as 12 extending as shown through the rear end of the ornament or anchor 11. The stippling of the concaved side of the handle aids in roughening it sufficiently to insure a substantial grip thereon although the anchor or its equivalent l1 affords ample transverse portions upon which a firm purchase may be had in or dismounting the device.
In applying the device the handle or nianipulating portion 6 is gripped for instance between the index finger and thumb of the right hand at which time the wedge-like body 4 at its reduced forward end is thrust into the crack or interval between the sash 3 and the frame and then pushed all the way 1 in thus firmly preventing the sash from vibrating. It is but a simple matter to slip the body 4 from its operative position but when it is in place it acts by friction or a tight fit to positively hold the sash against acci dental movement.
What I claim is:
An anti-rattler for window sashes, comprising a Wedge-like body, the sides of which are in parallelism, and which is adapted to be inserted between a sash and its frame, and a handle for and wider than the body on a simple curve and extending at an angle thereto for the purpose of inserting the wedge into operative position and withdrawing it from said operative position when 10 necessary, the front face of the handle being roughened. V i
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HOWARD C. NOBLE.
