REMOVABLE SUNKEN HANDLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it lmown that I, OTHo M. Own, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable Sunken Handles, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

The invention relates to removable sunken handles, and the object of the improvement is to provide a sunken handle which can be attached or detached as desired, the only requisite being an opening in the front of the drawer or door or other part to which the handle is attached having an opening into which the sunken portion of the handle fits, said sunken portion ofthe handle being provided with a groove around the same adj acent the wall of said opening for receiving a pair of spring locking keys which hold the handle firmly in position upon the front around the opening through which the sunken portion is inserted; and the invention consists in the novel features and combinations hereinafter set forth and claimed.

said front 10 having an opening 11 therein which fits the sunken handle rear portion 12 so that said rear portion 12 may be inserted within the front 10. Said front 10 is shown as made of sheet metal but may be made of other materials. 7 r

The sunken handle comprises a metallic piece 13 having a cup shaped opening 141: therein, said sunken cup-shaped opening 14: having an enlargement 15 at one side where room is desired to engage and draw upon the same by the fingers. The size of the cup shaped opening 14.- is sufficient so that the hands or the tips of the fingers may be easily inserted into said opening and the downward projection of the lip portion 16 along the side of'the opening 14 adjacent the enlargement 15 forms a convenient grip for the finger tips so that the handle 13 forms a strong pull or handle for opening a drawer, door or similar article.

The rear portion 12, as hereinbefore stated, fits the opening 11 in the sheet metal front 10, and the groove 17 is provided around the portion 12 adjacent the rear wall of the front 10 to receive therein apair of

19 and 20. These look mg keys are positioned by slipping same over the respective ends of the handle portion 12 and into the grooves 17 as depicted in Figs. 2, 1 and 6 of the drawings.

The sunken handle 13 is provided with an outwardly projecting flange 22 which extends over the face of the front 10 around the opening 11 and may be ornamented in different designs as desired, or may extend above the opening 1 1, as shown in Fig. 1, and have an opening therein for a filing or place card if desired.
