Description

M. L. RUSSELL.
GARMENT SUPPORTER- APPLICATION FILED APR.5, 1921.
Patented Feb. 7,1922.
MALLE rr'r-Ln nussELt, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ment in skirt and waist holders, such as is shown in my prior Patent No. 757,756, dated April 19, 1904. V i
In the said prior patent, I hve disclosed and claimed a garment holder for holding down the back portion of a waist, and sup porting a skirt. The invention comprises'a suitableframe having a plurality ofoppo-v sitely arranged prongs adapted'to be secured to the waist and skirt respectively, to maintain them in proper position. 7 In the present invention, I have provided a device of this character, having oppositely arranged prongs arranged relatively close to the surface of the body portion and adapted to be received in the waist and skirt, respec tively, as in the former construction. In addition, I further provide oppositely arranged prongs disposed at right angles to the first named prongs and positioned further from the body portion, whereby the first named prongs may be first secured in the waist and skirt and the second named prongs then secured to either of the garments to insure retention of the garment holder in position.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention; I this showing:
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of one form of the invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevation thereof, Figure 3 is a detail sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure l, and, Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the auxiliary prongs.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the body portion of the garment holder which may be made ofany suitable material and provided with orna mentation, if desired. Any of the noble metals may be employed where an expensive 7 V tance than the prongs of the mam fasteners.
article of jewelry is to'be produced, or baser metals may be employed, and provided with suitable covering of noble metal, if desired. As shown, the body portion may be provided lspecificationlof Lettersfatentt ap i a n'fii ia ifl a 1921 claimse t t ea in -Sfdepressed central l the reception of a stone'i .orfother setting."
'Ihemainfasteners'coinprise la pair positely" disposed u-sha aprdngsi, him; bly secured to the body portion of the device,
as at 5. As shown, the base of the U may be soldered to'the body portion. The arms '6 .are suitably "curved to permit the device to be readily applled to the garment. These arms 1 are arranged comparatively close to the body portion, whereby the main fasteners may be j secured to the waist and skirt, respectively,
as in my prior patent.
In the present invention,Ijprovide a pair of auxiliary fasteners, arranged at right an gles to the main fasteners. As shown, the auxiliar Y fastener comprises a pair of curved arms 7", having pointed ends 8. The rear of Y the arm islooped, as at 9, to'space it, a con-j" siderab-le distance. from the, body ortion,
and is received in a tubular sleeve'lO, formed in aplate 11,secured tothebody portion in Q any suitable manner. v When the device is to be applied, the main fasteners are first secured without interferf ence by the auxiliary-fasteners, due to their spaced position, andthe device is then moved.
a slight distance at rightangles to secure the I auxiliary fasteners to the garment. v 7
It willbe apparent that with the four fasteners' arranged at right anglesto each other, 1
the device is unlikely to become'clisplaced.=
It is to be'understood that the form of my invention herewith shown andf'described is to be taken-as a preferred example :ofthe; same, and that various changes 1n the shape,
size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention or the scope of thesubjoined Having thus described, my invention, I claim: Y 1. A garment holder comprisinga body portion, main fasteners arranged adjacent the top and bottom thereof, and provided with prongs projecting toward the center,
and auxiliary fasteners arranged adjacent each side of the body portion and .PI'OVldBd with prongs projecting toward the center,
the prongs of the auxiliary fasteners'being spaced from the body portion a greater disthe top and bottom thereof, said main fastenfastener from the body portion, the ends of said arms being pointed and auxiliary fasteners arranged adJacent the edge of the body portion and intermediate said main fasteners, each of said auxiliary fasteners comprising a plate having a sleeve formed on each side thereof, and a fastening mem ber secured ineach of said sleeves, said fastening member comprising a piece of Wire having one end arran ed in the sleeve, the intermediate portion thereof being looped and the other end arranged over the sleeve and pointed, the pointed ends of the auxiliary fasteners being spaced a greater distance from the body portion than the pointed ends of the main fasteners.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of twowitnesses.
