-- SHIPPING-TAG HOLDER.
T o all whom it may concert 2 Be it known that I, SrENonR C. Roenns a citizen of the United States, residing at Ocean Park, in the county ofLos Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and useful Shipping-Tag Holder, of which the following is a specification. W
This invention relates to receptacles used for holding shipping tagsandadvice. cards in exposed position upon shipping containers, and. relates particularly to holders 0f this nature from whichthe inserted cards provide in such a holder a latch means which will be of utility toifastenythe free, end thereof to the body of the container when the container is in local. transportation.
It is also a further object of my invention to provide a locking means for such a holder which may be putinto use'whenthe con,- tainer is to be transported under conditions Where it will be handled? by unauthorized persons. 3 '1 It is a still further object of my invention to provide a latch for such a holder which will permit of extremely low manufacturing costof the article. 7
Other objects} and advantageswill be made 1 Referring to the drawing whi illustrative purposes only: V

SPENCER uncenns, OF'OCEAN PABKyGALIFORNi j P U Patented Jan. 31,1922. Application filed August 20,1921. -,Se1fia 1"N0. 493,896. a 1
A tag holder 18 is hinged to the fro edge of the cover as shown at 19, this holder I 18 being'formedfrom a metal sheet20 having. portions punched therefrom to form openings 21 through which a shipping tag 22, held upon the underside ,ofthe :holder 12 by the inwardly bent edges tongues24c, may be viewed.
I provide a latch meansupon the free end. of the holder 18 as shown in Fig. 4: ofthe drawing. A centrally located tube 52am formed by rolling the projecting edge 30].of the plate 19, and eyelets 31 are. formed jade jacent theretoby rolling-.metal tongues 32.;
A spring 35 is placed withinthe' t'ube'. 25}
and shouldered pins 36 and 37 are thenj in v serted from each en dathrough the eyelets'31.
Punched metal discs or washers 4:0 and 411 are placed over the reduced portions 'of th'e pins" 36 and Y37. and, are adapted to; rest againstthe shoulders upon thepinsz' manner in which the washers areplacedfover the pinsfis illustrated .ati4l2 in Figfll. "The 2 pin 37 is forced baclr against the action "of the spring 35 and the washer s1 is inserted between the end of the pin'and' the facef of the eyelet 32, and thewasher isbroug'ht to a position arially concentric with the pin 37 whereupon the reducedend 43 thereof" is forced throughthe washer and the shoulder 44 upon the pin is brought to bear'against thewasherin alike manner to that shown at 44:." 'A
Upon the front of the body 12 of the containeris mounted a plate'd having project ing lugs 50 which areprovided" with holes 51. When the tag holder 18 is dropped from the-position shown in Fig. 1'to'a'po sition against the side of the container,v the lugs 50 project through slots" 55 provided therefor in thetaghOlder, and the pins 36 and 3'? may then be passed through the holes 50. Fromthe plate 45 is also projected" a lug 60adapted to project throughyajjslot 61 provided in the tag holder so that the tag holder may be locked against the container by looking a padlock through a'h'ole' 62 pro vided in the lug 60.
i In ordinary transportation such" the r i delivery [of films to local theaterspit is not generally considered necessary to padlock the containers as they rarelyleavethe hands of a person making the delivery or the consignee. Therefore, I provide a latch such as just described which may be easily and quickly disengaged by drawing the Washers 40 and 41 inwardly with the thumb and forefinger. 7
With the use of my invention I accomplish a considerable saving in time over the methods now in use of attaching ship"- ping tags and'precautionary notices by the use of paste, tacks, and other such means.
I claim as my invention:
