Be it known that I, MARCUS B. BEHRMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock- Tags, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to means for correcting, so far as may be possible, the too common practice of certain persons having garments sent home from a store on approval and after wearing the garments, returning the same to the store for credit or exchange. It has been discovered that some persons have had garments sent home on approval'- without any intention of purchasing the same and that after wearing the garments for some occasion, have returned the same to the store.

My invention provides an identifying tag to be conspicuously borne by garments or the like, including hats, showing that the same are out on approval and have not been paid for, and this tag, in accordance with my invention, is secured to the garment in such manner that it cannot, without mutilation, be removed therefrom. The tag will be applied to the garment in such conspicuous position as to deter the wearing of the garment in public while the tag is thereon.

My invention comprises an identifying tag, a pin for` securely pinning the same and the garment together and a locking member to be applied to the pin after the pin, tag and garment have been fastened together, for non-removably locking the pin in position, so that neither the pin or tag may be separated from the garment without destroying or mutilating the tag or pin. Garments returned with the tag removed or mutilated will not be received for credit or exchange, and a notice to this effect will be printed on the tag.

The invention will be fully understood from the detailed description hereinafter presented, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

In the drawings 10 designates, diagrammatically, a garment or other piece of material, 11 the merchandise tag to be applied to the garment, and 12 a pin formed from a rod of wire or other suitable material for securing the tag to the garment, said pin having at one end a shank 13 adapted to receive, after the manner of a snap fastener, a head 14 to be pressed home thereon. At the head end of the pin there is a fiat metal disk 15 with which the shank 13, which is cylindrical in outline, may be formed, the whole being in one piece of metal; the sides of the cylindrical shank 13 have a suitable number of downwardly and outwardly diverging spring fingers 16, and by preference the shank 13. disk 15, spring fingers 16, and pin 12 are in one integral piece. The shank 13 is adapted to receive the hollow head 14, which head has an orifice 17 in its lower side, and said orifice being surrounded by an inturned flange 18. Upon the application of the head 14 to the shank 13 the orifice 17 passes downwardly over said shank and the edges of said orifice force the spring fingers 13 inwardly and thereafter, upon the head 14 reaching its final position, said spring fingers 13 spring outwardly over the ange 18 and lock the head 17 in position on said shank, rendering said head non-removable. The tag 11 is distinctive in several respects,

The invention admits of further modifica tions within the scope of the appended claims, since it is to be -noted that the essence of the invention, in its broader view, resides in the tag, a pin for securing the tag to a. garment or the like and means for so locking the pin in its operative position that neither it or the tag can be removed from the garment withoutmutilation of one of the other thereof.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is-

l. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like, a tag, a plain pointed pin threaded through the tag and garment ata plurality of points for pinning the tag onto the garment, and a nonremovable locking member securing the head end of said pin and said tag together, thereby enabling that portion of the garment held on the pin to prevent the removal of the pin or tag from the garment.

2. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like, a tag, a plain pointed pin for pinning the tag and garment together by passing the pin through a plurality of piercings in the tag and through the material of the garment at two piercings coinciding with adjacent piercings of the tag, and a. non-removable locking member applied to said pin for locking the head end of said pin and said tag together and rendering the same non-removable.

3. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like, a tag, a plain pointed pin for pinning the tag and garment together and having at one end a shank, and a head or'application to said shank, said shank being extended through said tag from one side thereof to receive said head at the other side of t-he tag, and said shank and head having interlocking parts for rendering said head non-removable from the pin and said tag non-removable from the garment.

4. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like. a tag. a

plain pointed pin for pinning the tag and garment together and havin at one end a shank, and a head for application to said shank, said tag having a plurality of holes to receive said pin in its application tothe garment and a hole to receive from one side of the tag said shank, and said shank being adapted to receive from the other side or' the tag said head, and said shank and head having interlocking parts for rendering said head non-removable from the pin and said tag non-removable, without mutilation, from the garment.

5. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like, a tag, a plain pointed pin piercing the tag and garment at a plurality of points and pinning the tag and garment together, and a nonremovable locking member applied to said pin for rendering the pin and tag, Without mutilation, non-removable from the garment.

6. In a device of the character described for use on a garment or the like, a tag, a plain pointed pin piercing the tag and garment at a plurality of points and pinning the tag and garment together, and a nonremovable locking member' applied to said pin for rendering the pin and tag, without mutilation, non-removable from the garment, said tag being of paper or like material and having three holes to receive said pin, whereby the pin between two of said holes may secure the tag and garment to gether and have its pointed end inserted through the third hole and concealed at the back of the tag.
