CHARLES F. STITES, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN WELL-BUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,439, dated July 1, 1873; application filed May 24, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. STITES, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Well-Bncket, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of an improved self emptying or dumping well-bucket, composed, essentially, of a metal cylinder and wooden bottom, and provided, on the upper end, with a metal tilting buffer cast into a slotted part, which embraces the top of the bucket, and is secured thereto by rivets.
The drawing is a sectional elevation of my improved well-bucket.
A is the metal cylindrical portion; B, the wooden bottom; and G, the buffers. The bottom is a thick strong disk of wood, fitted snugly in the lower end of the cylinder, and secured by the flange a, brad b, metal band d, and the nails 0. The tilting bufi'ers C are cast with a slot, f, in the lower end, in which the top of the cylinder and its band g are fitted, and secured by rivets h. The outside branch of the slotted portion of the bufi'er extends only as low as the band g,- but the inner one may extend as much further as required for being permanently secured.
These buffers are employed to tilt the bucket, by arresting one side of it under a stop projecting beyond the water-spout from a point a little above it. By their use the emptying of the bucket is facilitated, and the injury to the bucket by striking the object which stops it is much less than when the bufl'ers are not used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, a tilting bucket, composed, essentially, of the metal cylinder A, wooden bottom B, and the metal bufi'ers 0, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
