GARMENT MARKER.
Application filed June 28, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Ronnn'r PRICE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Oregon City, in the county of Clackamas and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Markers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates in general to garment markers, and more particularly to a garment mark r especially adapted for marking skirts or similar garments.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is adapted to effectively mark the garment, which while demountable may be readily setup and accurately adjusted to carry out the marking operation, which effectively applies the marking substance and which is in general of simple and durable construction, reliable in operation, easy and inexpensive to manufacture and susceptible of advantageous use and adjustment by a single perator.
Other objects and advantages of the in vention reside in certain novel features 01 construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part or" this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view or" the preferred embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a similar view, showing the device in use;
Figure 3 is a group View in fragmentary perspective, illustrating the organization of the elements of the base;
Figure 4 is a detail view, partly in section and partly in elevation, illustrating the mounting of the carrier on the standard; and
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view, illustrating the elements of the base assembled, and in folded relation;
Figure 6 is a detail view in transverse section illustrating the marking device.
Referring to the drawings wherein for the sake of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention it will be seen that the numeral 10 designates a foot plate which constitutes an element of the base and which carries an upstanding screw 11. Standards 12 and 13 are provided and constitute respectively a supporting standard and measuring device. At their Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 481,269.
lower ends the standards 12 and 13 have inturned portions 14- and 15, respectively, which constitute the base sections of the standards. The inner end of the base section 14 of the supporting standard is fiattened, as indicated at 1 1, Fig. 3 the flattoned portion being provided with an aperture 16 which receives the screw 11 and the base section 15 of the measuring device has its ends offset upwardly, as at 1 7 and apertured, as at 1.8, to also receive the screw, the end 18 of the base sect-ion 15 overlying the end 14' of the base section 1 1:. Nuts 19 and 20 are threaded on the screw and engage the offset ends 17 of the base section 15 to secure the sections to the foot plate 10.
A distributor 22 is mounted onthe standards and preferably comprises a hollow ring having preferably a circumferential series of jet openings 23. As shown in Figure 1 the circumferential series of et openings 23 are disposed on the inner face of the ring.
A carrier 25 is provided for mounting the distributor on the supporting standard and comprises a block 26 having an opening 27 therethrough which receives the supporting standard 12, the opening being slightly greater in diameter than the diameter oi the supporting standard whereby the edges of the block presented by the opening are adapted to be canted into binding engagement with the supporting standard by the weight of the distributor. t is obvious that in lien or" this arrangement for securing the carrier in adjusted position on the standard a set screw carried by the block and engageable with the standard or friction shoes carried by the block and spring pressed into engagement with the standard may be provided. A guide bracket 28 is also fixed to the distributor and slidably embraces the standard 13, the guide bracket 28 also constituting an indicator cooperable with the measuring device for facilitating accurate adjustment of the distributor ring thereon A reservoir or chamber 30 is provided for marking substance \v ich is preferably powder, and as shown in Figure 6 it has a removable cover 31 at its upper end to provide for replenishin the supply of the marking substance. A blower pipe is carried by the reservoir 30 and has intermediate its ends an imper'forate partition or diaphragm 33 dividing the pine into an inlet section 3 1 and an outlet section 35. The inlet section 3% is provided withorifices 36 and tne outlet section 35 is provided with outlet openings 37 A bracket 88 having a. curved clamping portion 39 embracing the distributing ring and a vertical arm A0 receiving the blower pipe cooperates with a short pipe 41 which is received in the blower pipe and which extends through openings provided in the clamping portion 89 of the bracket 38 and in the distributor ring, to support the reservoir on the distributor, the short pipe 41 also serving to connect the outlet section 35 of the blower pipe with the distributor ring. A hand pump 43 of any suitable construction, and which may be a bulb if desired, is connected by means of a flexible conduit eii with the inlet section oi the blower, the hand pump serving to generate a current or blast of air when it is operated. The blast or current of air created by the hand pump 4:3
flows through the conduit id and the inlet section 3% of the blower 32 and is projected as inclined jets from the orifice 36, these orifices being suitably formed to give the requisite inclination to the jets. These jets impinge directly on the powder or marking substance stirring it up and entraining it and carrying it out through the orifices 37 and outlet 85 of the blower pipe into the short pipe 41 and thence into the distributor ring from the openings 23 of which it is projected against the skirt or garment being marked.
In the use of the device, the wearer of the garment stands within the distributing ring and upon the foot plate 10 to steady the device. The distributor ring is then adjusted to the desired positions on the standards, the adjustment being facilitated and being accurately carried out by the measuring device constituted by the standard 13. After the distributor ring has been adjusted to its desired position the hand pump 4:3 is operated and the marking substance being thus projected in a substantial-continuous ring against the garment, marking the same cl.- iectively. The device may be readily set up or dismounted and in setting up the device the arrangement whereby only two or a pair of standards are utilized to support the dis tributor ring affords a readily operable means for carrying out the requisite adjustment. A
I claim:
1. A garment marker comprising a foot plate, a pair of standards, one of said standards constituting a supporting standard and the other of said standards constituting a measuring device, said standards having inturned portions at their lower ends constihaving one end engaging said blower pipe and the other end extending through and engaging the clamping portion of the bracket and the distributor ring.
2. A garment marker comprising a foot plate, a pair of standards, one of said standards constituting a supporting standard and the other of said standards constituting a measuring device, said standards having in-, turned portions at their lower ends constituting the base sections thereof, means for securing said base sections to said foot plate, a distributor ring having a series of jet openings, a carrier for the distributor including a carrier block having an opening receiving the supporting standard, and a guide bracket secured to the distributor ring and slidably engaging the measuring standard.
3. A garment marker including a distributor ring having a series of jet openings, a reservoir for the marking substance, a blower pipe extending through said reservoir and having an imperforate partition intermediate its ends defining an inlet section and an outlet section in said blower pipe, said inlet section havinginclined orifices and said outlet section having outlet openings, a connection between the outlet section of the blowerpipe andthe distributor ring, and a 7 ABRAHAM ROBERT PEECE.
