Abstract

1,079,093. Steaming apparatus for garments. McGRAW EDISON CO. March 17, 1966 [April 19, 1965], No. 11748/66. Heading D1A. [Also in Division F4] A garment finisher comprises a hollow base 4 supporting a frame 3 surrounded by a fabric bag (2) Fig. 2, for supporting a garment, the part of the bag above the waist portion presenting little resistance to the flow of air therethrough whereas the rest of the bag is less permeable, means being provided in the base for supplying air under pressure to the bag. Frame 3 is rotatably supported on the base 4 which includes a blower housing 5. Heating apparatus 9 comprising a coil (22) with fins between which air passes is mounted round a cup-like member 16 to which steam is supplied. Steam can pass from member 16 through line 27 and base 28 to a steam gun 29. Steam is delivered from member 16 through line (44) to the lower end (34<1>), Fig. 6 (not shown) of a hollow member (34) mounted on top of member 16 and having an open upper end 35. A nozzle tube 36 coaxially mounted within member (34) forms a passage (39) for steam which escapes to be deflected by an adjustable collar 40 beyond which there are steam apertures in tube 36. Upright members 50, 51 e.g. of sheet metal, are secured to a band (46) at the lower edge of frame 3 and carry, at their upper ends, a shoulder piece 52, braces 55 being provided midway up. Shoulder extensions (61) slidable on shoulder piece 52 are connected by arms 63 to a bracket 65 carried by braces 55. Links (68) pivotted to arms 63 have their inner ends connected to a slide (70) mounted in a tubular member (71) secured to shoulder piece 52, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). A pin or bolt (72) extends through a slot (73) in member (71) and is connected to a rod (74) extending upwardly through a bore (75) and a collar support (76), a handle 77 being provided on its upper end for operating it to move extensions (61) outwards and inwards, the arrangement being held in any selected position by a resilient member (78). Collar support (76) Fig. 8 (not shown) is hinged to shoulder piece 52 and is held by a spring member 81 in a forward position against the action of springs (83). Clamp means 85 is carried on a leaf-spring 90 secured to a lever 87 pivotted to base 4 its movement being limited by adjustable screw 103. A rod 93 slidable to a limited extent in lever 87 has a hand grip 94 at its upper end and a detent (95) at its lower end to engage an adjustable stop (96) on bracket 89 when the lever is swung inwardly, Fig. 5 (not shown). Clamping member 86 is similarly mounted. The bag has a lower portion (105) of very closely woven nylon of limited permeability and an upper portion (107) is of open mesh cloth presenting little resistance. The bag (2) is preferably non- expansible and does not fill the garment which is expanded by the fluid. A cloth member (108) of little or no permeability is placed over shoulder piece 52 under mesh portion (107). The open end of bag 2 engages round the collar support and the lower edge is secured by draw string 110 to band (46). A circular brace ring 58 secured to members 50, 51 carries a strip of towelling to catch condensation. Spreaders (116) are used in the sleeves.
