HATBACK.
Application filed September 4, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GASPAR FREDRIOK A. BEGKERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in lZ-latracks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an article of manufacture which is utilizable as a hanger for bats, caps and the like,
An object of this invention is to provide a device which may be readily mounted on a suitable support to form a projection on which articles may be hung or suspended, and which may be detached from its support and conveniently carried for further use.
Another object is to provide a device of the above character which is especially adapted for use by autoists for attachment to suitable parts of an auto vehicle, such as the windshield, to form a hanger, and which is also adapted to be clamped on the backs of theater chairs and the like, or secured to the branches of trees, or other objects, to obtain a substantial means for supporting hats and articles of similar nature.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the hanger showing it in a folded position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the hanger as seen in an open position.
Figure 8 is a view in side elevation showing the manner of mounting the hanger on a support and illustrating it as employed as a hat hanger.
More specifically, 5 and 6 indicate a pair of leaves or plates which are hinged together as indicated at 7 and are adapted to be folded against each other; the plates being preferably of corresponding size so as to register with each other when folded. The plate 6 constitutes a back plate and is formed with a tongue 8 which is preferably struck therefrom and is bent to project outwardly and downwardly to form a hook which is adapted to be engaged with a suit able support and co-operates with the back plate 6 in forming a clamp by which the Specification of Letters Patent.

device may be detachably secured to the up per edge of a panel 9 or suitable object as indicated m Figure 3; the plate 5 is designed to be swung to extend from the side of the back plate from which the tongue projects and to seat upon the outwardly extending portion 10 of the tongue 8, which portion 10 serves as a means for supporting the plate 5 and holding it at an angle relative to the back plate, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, thus forming a projection upon which hats or other articles may be hung when the back plate is firmly clamped on its support. The plate 5 is formed with apertures 11 to facilitate fastening an article on the hanger particularly where the hanger is employed as a support for ladies hats to receive a hat pin which on being thrust through the hat and passed through an aperture 11 will securely hold the hat on the hanger. The apertures are also advantageous in afiording'a means for ready engagement in securing an article on the hanger by tying with cord.
The operation of the invention is apparent in the foregoing, it being seen that the hanger may be readily secured to a support in detachable engagement therewith so it can be readily removed and replaced and repeatedly employed as occasion may require and that when the hanger is not in use the leaves thereof may be folded into a compact space and readily carried. By providing the hanger with the clamp it may be detachably mounted on various articles for afi'ordiug a support therefor, such for example as the windshield or robe rail ofan auto vehicle, the backs of chairs, branches of trees, and various other structures-astride of which the substantially U-shaped clamp formed by the back plate and tongue may be placed.
I claim:
1. A hanger comprising a back plate, a spring tongue projecting outwardly and downwardly from one side of said back plate co-operating with said back plate to form a clamp, and a hanger plate hinged on the back plate and arranged to be supported on the outwardly extending portion of the spring tongue.
2. A hanger comprising a back plate, a spring tongue struck from said back plate and projecting outwardly and downwardly side thereof and to be swung to extend from therefrom on one side thereof and co-op the opposite side thereof; said spring tongue erating with said back, plate to form a having an outwardly projecting portion on 10 clamp, and a hanger plate hinged on the which said hanger plate is adapted to seat back plate adjacent to the base of said to. limit swinging movement thereof in one spring tongue adapted ,to be swung to exdirection. i
