Specification of Letters Patent. Pgsfgqgnted Jn, im), 192% Application filed August 18, 1919. Serial No. 318,412.
To all whom t may concer/a.'
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE F. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Vestchester and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in game devices and has for its object to provide a ball bat having means whereby it may be attached to the hand.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ball bat approximately the shape of a persons hand and means whereby it ma be attached to the hand.
till another object of the invention is to provide a bat approximately the shape of a persons hand and means whereby it may be attached to either the right or left hand and conform to the shape of either.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a bat having a flexible piece for attaching the bat to a wearers hand said piece having a thumb opening and means whereby said opening may be made to suit the thumb of either the right or left hand.
With the above and other objects in view, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device shown fixed to a hand, the hand being in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the reverse side of the device the fastening strap being reversed thereon in dotted lines, and,
Figure 3 is a detail plan view of the fastening member removed from the bat.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views in the drawings in which 1 indicates a board the contour shape of a persons hand without the thumb. This board may be made of any suitable material such as wood, metal, papier mache, or the like, and is reversible so that it may be applied Vto either the right or left hand. To the edge 2 opposite the thumb edge 3 of the board and near the end 4 adjacent the wrist portion of the board is hingedly secured at 6 a flexible strap 5 adapted to lit over the wrist and back of a persons hand. The other end of this strap is bifurcated to pr0- vide a thumb opening 7, whereby a person will have free use of the thumb in using the device, the extremities 8 and 9 are provided with eyes 10 and 1l which are adapted to engage the hooks or pins 12 and 13 one of which is on the edge 3 near the center of the board, the other pin 13 being on the angularly disposed edge 14 whereby said extremities when fastened have a tendency to pull against one another and hold the device more securely to the hand. It is not essential for the strap to iit tightly around the wrist as a slight pressure of the fingers upon the board or bending of the band will cause the strap to press tightly against the back of the hand, thus the device will easily fit to hands of various sizes. The device is especially adapted for batting balls back and forth. As there are many other uses to which the invention is readily adaptable I do not limit its uses to that of a bat.
rIhe strap 5 may be formed of leather, canvas or any other suitable material and it may also have inset 15 of elastic material if desired in order to more readily accommodate to hands of various sizes.
Now having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is z- 1. In a device of the character described a base and a hand strap having one end secured to one edge of the base and means for fastening the other end of the strap to another edge of the base, said strap being reversible upon the base, whereby the base may be secured to either hand of a user, said strap having a thumb opening.
2. In a device of the character described a vbase and a hand strap having one end secured to one edge of the base and means for fastening the other end of the strap to another edge of the base, said strap being reversible upon the base, whereby the base may be secured to either hand of a user, said strap having a thumb opening, arranged to receive the thumb of either the right or left hand.
3. In a device of the character described a base and a hand strap having one end secured to one edge of the base and means for fastening the other end of the strap to another edge of the base, said strap being reversible upon the base, whereby the base may be secured to either hand of a user, said strap having a thumb opening, arranged to receive the thumb of either the right or left hand, said base being shaped to a hand.
4. In :L device of the character deseribed rig-ht or left hand, said base being shaped 1'0 a. base and a handstlt/aip having one end to ,s1-- hand, said base-being rigid. secured to one edge of the heee and ineens v n testimony Wheeof I aHiX my signafor fastenng tifie l(thfr end o the strap. to ture in presence of two witnesses. 1 another e ge o t e ase, sai strap being: reversible upon theibase whereby Athe vhase l. n l LAWRENCE F' RYAN'; be secred to either"l hand of a uSer, Witnesses: said strap having a; thumb opening, .ar- 'F'RANK SAXTON, ranged to receive the thumb of either the F.
