  • This invention relates to game devices, and more particularly to game devices wherein a target and a game apparatus in the form of a dart provided with a suction cup, a magnetic dart, or other desirable dart construction, to attach itself to the target when the dart is thrown in the vicinity of the target and the target maneuvered into the path of travel of the dart.

4 Claims. (Cl. 273-95) This invention relates to game devices, and more particularly to game devices wherein a target and a game apparatus in the form of a dart provided with a suction cup, a magnetic dart, or other desirable dart construction, to attach itself to the target when the dart is thrown in the vicinity of the target and the target maneuvered into the path of travel of the dart.
An important object of the invention is to provide a disc-like target having a strap or other convenient securing means, secured to the rear surface thereof, the strap providing means for attaching the target to the hand of the person playing the game so that the target may be moved into the path of travel of the dart to catch the dart, thereby scoring points of the game.
A further object of the invention is to construct a target in such a way that it will be exceptionally light for ease in manipulation, and one which will be free of sharp edges, thereby protecting the user against injury while playing the game and swinging the target to catch the dart.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a target, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the target.
Figure 4 is an elevational view of the dart which is thrown at the target, in playing the game.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the target comprises a disc-like body portion indicated by the reference character 5, which is constructed of any suitable material such as plywood, plastic, heavy cardboard, metal such as aluminum or the like, due consideration being had for the durability and lightness of the target, so that it will be readily maneuverable.
In the present showing, the target comprises a main disc-like section 6 of cardboard material, and a metal covering 7 that has its marginal edge 8 turned inwardly over the edge of the main section 6, securing the metal covering to the section 6.
Secured to the rear surface of the main disc-like section 6 is a wide tape 9, the tape 9 being secured at its ends by means of staples 19, the intermediate portion or portion between the staples being loose and free of the section 6 to which it is connected, so that the fingers of the person playing the game may he slid between the tape 9 and the main disc-like section 6 to hold the body portion on the hand of the person using the device.
The face of the disc-like body portion is provided with 2,745,655 Patented May I5, 1955 concentric lines 11 which are spaced apart providing areas in which a dart such as indicated by Figure 4 of the drawing may rest in striking the target. The spaces between the concentric lines 11 are supplied with indicia representing the points of the game to the end that when the dart is thrown at the target and attaches itself to the target within a space, the scrore made by that throw is determined by the indicia shown in the space or scoring area.
The dart comprises a body 12, suction cup 13 and feathers 14 to guide the dart as it is thrown through the air at the target.
While I have shown and described the means for securing the target to the hand of the person playing the game as a strap secured to the rear surface of the target, it is within the scope of the invention to employ any type of target holding means desired.
In playing the game, a target is held on one hand of the player and the dart is held in the other hand to be thrown at the target on the hand of the opponent. The opponent endeavors to maneuver the target to a position to intercept the path of travel of the dart to cause the dart to adhere to the target, the space in which the dart is caught determining the scoring of the game.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a game, a disc-like movable dart catching target member embodying a smooth fiat front surface ruled providing a scoring surface, a dart adapted to be thrown towards a player holding said target on his hand, said dart comprising a soft ball and a suction cup secured to the surface of said ball, a hand strap secured to the rear surface of the movable dart catching target for securing said target to the hand of a player for effecting manipulation of said target to a position intercepting the line of flight of said dart thrown, the suction cup of the dart striking said scoring surface temporarily holding said target on said scoring surface.
2. In a game, a disc-like movable dart catching target member embodying a smooth flat disc-like member constructed of cushioning material, a fiat metal member covering one surface of said cushioning material with the marginal edge thereof clipped around the edge of said cushioning material, said metal covering being ruled providing a scoring surface, a dart adapted to be thrown towards a player holding said targets, said dart comprising a soft ball and a suction cup secured on the surface of said ball, and means secured to the rear surface of the movable target securing said movable target to the hand of a player for effecting manipulation of said target to a position intercepting the line of flight of said dart thrown, the suction cup striking said scoring surface temporarily holding said target on said scoring surface.

In a game, a disc-like movable dart catching target member embodying a metal member presenting a smooth front surface ruled providing a scoring surface, a dart adapted to be thrown towards a player holding said target, said dart comprising a soft ball and a suction cup secured to the surface of said ball, means secured to the rear surface of the movable target for securing said target to the hand of a player for efiecting manipulation of said target to a position intercepting the line of flight of said dart thrown, the suction cup striking said scoring surface temporarily holding said target on said scoring surface.
