IMPROVEMENT IN CHICKEN-COOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,277 dated June 24, 1873 application filed April 26, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. J. H. KAPPE, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented. new and valuable Improvements in (loops; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the anneXed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan view of my coop, folded. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of same. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of same.
This invention has relation to portable chicken-coops; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the bottom, having cleats at the ends, the folding sides and ends, the feed-cups arranged to fit between the sides when folded, and the top having the transverse cleats arranged to fit between the ends when folded, all as hereinafter more fully described.
The object of this invention is to provide a coop, the parts of which, when folded, will.
occupy but a small amount of space, and the construction adopted is designed to cause the parts to fit each other, when folded, closely and compact-1y, and, when opened, to .be strongly secured and well braced.

B indicates the ends of the coop, consisting of the rails c c, and the wires d. v In the folding operation the sides are first turned down upon thebottoin of the coop, and when in this position they are designed to be a sufficient distance apart to admit between them the feed-boxes when the ends of the coop are folded down upon them. When the coop is folded it occupies but little space, and its form is most convenient for storing. At the same time the folded parts lie squarely upon each other, and are thus able to sustain superincumbent pressure without injury.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The chicken-coop constructed with a bottom having the end cleats a, the sides 0 havin g notches v and hinged to the bottom boards, the ends B hinged to the end cleats a, and the top D having the projecting cleats 1, substantially as specified.
