COLLAPSIBLE CHICKEN-COOP.
Application filed May 12, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STERLING P. HIoKnR- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fullerton, in the county of Nance, and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Chicken-Coops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact clescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and .use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide an efficient and sanitary chicken coop of the collapsible type, which is constructed entirely of metal.
IVith this and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustratedin the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the coop, parts being removed, Fig. 2 represents a plan view thereof, Fig. 3 represents an end elevation of the coop, Fig. a represents a transverse sectional View on the line ;-l1 of Fig. 2, Fig. 5 represents an end elevation of the coop in collapsed condition, and Fig. 6 represents a fragmentary sectional view, through the coop, illustrating one of the spring locking members in detail.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the. several views, the numerals 8 and 9 indicate the bottom and top frames of the coop which are rectangular in shape and constructed of angle iron. An imperforate metal bottom 10 issupported upon the lower horizontal members of the bottom frame 8 and is reinforced by a plurality of braces 11 secured in the frame. The end members of the frames 8 and 9 are connected by pairs of pivoted links 12, whereby the upper frame 9 may be moved downwardly against the lower frame 8 as clearly shown in Fig. 5, to expedite transportation of the coop when empty.
Side walls 13 are removably secured between the longitudinal members of the upper and lower frames 9 and 8, respectively, and are retained in proper spaced and parallel relation by a partition 14 secured by Specification of Letters Patent.

hinges 15 centrally of the bottom 10. The side walls 13 are prevented from moving outwardly by the depending members of the upper frame 9 and theupstanding members of the bottom frame 8.
A top 16 is secured in the upper frame 9 and is formed with a central longitudinal opening 17 extending from end to end of the frame which is adapted to be closed when the coop is in use by a removable cover plate 18, having reduced longitudinal eX- tensions19 which, byflexing the plate, may be engaged in slots 20 formed in the vertical or depending members of the upper frame 9. The extensions 19 and upper frame 9 are formed with apertures 21 adapted to receive a wire seal or other device for preventing opening of or tampering with the cover plate 18, during shipment of the coop.
End walls 22 are arranged between the end members of the bottom and top frames 8 and 9 and are locked in vertical position by the spring latches 23, which are secured to the top frame 9 and project downwardly through apertures 24 therein, and engage the inner surfaces of the end walls 22.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention the side and end walls 13 and 22, respectively,,thereof areconstructed of wire net bound by metallic frames of such size as to lend requisite strength and rigidity to the coop.
To collapse the coop, the partition 14 is swung downwardly upon its hinges 15 against the bottom 10, and the side and end walls 13 and 22 are subsequently removed after springing the spring locking members 23 outwardly, out of the. path of the end walls 14:. The links 12 are next collapsed so as to move the top frame 9 downwardly upon the bottom frame 8, the side and end walls being placed between the top and bottom for convenience in shipment.
What I claim is:
1. A coop comprising substantially rectangular top and bottom frames constructed of angle iron, pivoted links pivotally con-' necting the upper and lower frames; side and end walls removably positioned between said frames; a removable bottom plate supported in the lower frame; and a hinged partition hinged to the bottom plate and adapted, when moved to vertical position, to retain the side walls in operative position. 7
2. A coop comprising upper and lower substantially rectangular frames constructed of angle iron, the upper frame having slots in the end members, removable side and end walls arranged between said frames, a top supported in the top frame, and a cover plate removably supported upon said top 10 having reduced ends adapted, when the plate is flexed, to be inserted in said slots. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
