Description

FLT.' mw.- 5MM-Mmmm.
Y, No't 140,197. PWMJWNJW FREDERICK T. HOYT, -OF BROOKLYII, NEW YORK.v
IMPROVEMENT `IN PANTALOONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. lldlghg, dated .Tune 24, 1873; application filed March 15, 1873.
To all whom it may concern i Be it known that I, FREDERICK T. Horr, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of Newv York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pantaloons for Boys, of which the following is a specification: ,l
Pantaloons for boys, being buttoned to the waistband of the jacket at the back,`have to be made too full to `set well in order to allow the wearer to bend forward,.for which a greater length ofv cloth is required than for stand.,- ing upright, because of the length ofthe back in` bending. 'lliey dili'er in this respect from those worn by adults, which, being held by suspenders, which are elastic, do not require any excess ot cloth, and therefore may be made to fit properly, because the 'increase in the length of the back of the wearer in bending forward is compensated bythe elastic suspenders which the jacket to which the boys pantaloons rare attached will not allow, because they have little or-no elasticity, which necessitates an excessive fullness, which isin- 4compatiblewith a good flt.'.` Itherefore propose to employ elastic straps on the pauta locus, at the back, for buttoniug them to they jacket, to compensate for' the increase in the length of the back when the gwearer bends forward, and thus allow of fitti-ng boys pantaloons vas nicely as those worn'by older persons.
' Figure 1 is a' front elevation oi. a pair of boys pantaloons provided with elastic straps.
for buttoning them to the jacket according to my invention.v Fig. 2 is a section of the back of the pant-al'oons, one of' the elastic straps, and a portion of the jacket.,
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts. y 1
' A represents the'baek portion of the pantaloons; B, the elastic straps, which are attached for buttoning to the' jacket. C represents a portion of the jacket. These straps havea button-hole, D, inthe upper end, and
are scwed to the pantaloons. jThese straps will stretch and compensate for the extra length of the back of the wearer when bending forward, and` allow of litting the back of theA pant-aloons without any unnecessary fullf ness ion this account, as they have necessarily been made heretofore. The elastic straps may be attached to the, jacket and button ou the pantaloons with the same result, but I prefer to sew them on the pantaloons.
Having. thus described my invention, I claim asenew and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a pair of pantaloons the elastic strappieces B B, provided with the slits D and.. permanently secured to the inner side of such garment, as shown, for thepurpose of attach-l ment to a jacket, 'as set forth.
` vFREDERICK T. HOYT. j Witnesses:
