Description

'R. GOLD EN.
CLASP FOR DOCUMENTS, &c.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 4,1921.
Patented 1300.27, 1921. I
INVENTOR,
ATTORNEY- ROBERT GOLDEN, OF BRUOKLY N, NEW 'YOIRK.
QLASP FOR DOCUMENTS, 850.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that l, Bonner German, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in- Ul asps for Documents, &c., of which the'following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in clips or clasps for documents, business cards, etc., and has for its particular objects the provision of a simple, inexpensive yet effective device for use in connection with dictating machines such for example as are commonly known as Ediphones or Dictaphones.
I am aware that various spring clasps have been devised for holding papers, business cards and other documents, but none of them are capable of use on the container of a dictating or talking machine record in the manner hereinafter described for employing my improved clasp.
In the accompanying drawings in which is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my improved clasp,
Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 a side elevation of such clasp in position on a cylindrical record container, and
Fig. 3 a perspective view of such clasp, isolated.
Referring to the drawings and the construction shown therein, the reference numeral 1 designates a longitudinal metallic base'member, the same having a reduced neck-portion 2 which terminates in a duckbill head 3. Oppositely extending arms 4, 4: are formed integral with said base member, the former being provided with a hook 5 and the latter having a hook or like device 6 for connecting a flexible strap-member thereto. Said strap-member comprises a chain 7 preferably having oblong links, to which is secured a coil-spring 8 the terminal ring or loop 9 of which is adapted to fit over said hook 5 and hold the device on a container in the position shown in Fig. 1. Said flexible strap is of course shorter, for example one-half inch shorter, than the gap along the periphery of a record container which exists between the opposing free ends of arms 4, 4. Suitable barbs 10 are formed at intervals on the arms and base-member in order to prevent accidental displacement of the clasp when applied to a record container, such as A for example.
A clip-member which is arched at one Specification of Letters Patent. P555 3 end 11 andupturned-at the other end lil'is rice.
ted Dec. 2'7, 1921; Application filed November 4,1921. Serial no. 512,755. 4
pivotally secured to said base-member by J means of a V-shaped leaf spring-member 13 that pro ectsthrough apertures a, a and 7),
in the base and clip-members respectively and has inturned or upset ends 14, 14'. In-
turned lugs 15 cooperate with said barbs 10 in preventing displacement of the clasp when in use. -An indicator card holder 16 is formed on the clip-member adjacent the aperture 6 therein and the same serves to re ceive an identification. card of any desired color or bearing any desired symbol or legend.
This clasp is not only useful for holding letters and other documents on the top of the record container while dictating therefrom into the receiver horn of the dictating machine, but after the record is placed in the container the clasp may be advantageously used to hold the copy used in such dictation 1n order that the typists may have the same for ready reference during the reproduction.
of such I record.
Various modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, maybe made without departing from the spirit of my invention as herein set forth. For example the hook 5 may be crimped on the end 9 of said coil spring to permanently hold the said flexible strap and thus facilitate the adjustment of the proper link of chain '4' over the hook 6,
'since obviously, where the container to which the clasp is to be applied issmaller than that for which the flexible strap is normally intended, then one of the intermediate links and not the terminal link will be hooked to hook, 6.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent is:
1. In a clasp for record containers, the combination comprising. a base-member having oppositely disposed arms rigidly con nected thereto and projecting therefrom, an
elastic strap-member adapted to elastically connect the freeends of said arms and securely hold said clasp in any adjusted position on the outer surface of a container and a movable clip-member, for retaining docu-' ments, movably secured to said base-member intermediate said arms.
2. In a clasp for record containers, the
combination comprising a base-member having oppositely disposed arms rigidly connected thereto and projecting therefrom, an
elastic means comprising chain and spring members adapted to elastically connect the free ends of said arms and securely hold said clasp in any adjusted position on the outer surface of a container and a movable clip-member, for retaining documents, movably secured to said base member intermediate said arms.
3. In a clasp for record containers, the combination comprising a base member having oppositely disposed arms rigidly connected thereto and projecting therefrom, an elastic strap-memberadapted to elastically connect the free ends of said arms and so curely hold said clasp in any adjusted position on the outer surface of a container, a movable clip-member, for retaining documents, movably secured to said base-member intermediate said arms, and means projecting inwardly from said arms for preventing accidental displacement of said clasp when in any adjusted position on a container.
&. In a clasp for record containers, the combination comprising a base-member having oppositely disposed arms rigidly connected thereto and projecting therefrom, an
elastic strap-member adapted to elastically connect the free ends of said arms and securely hold said clasp in any adjusted position on the outer surface of a container, a movable clipmember, for retaining docu ments, movably secured to said base-member intermediate said arms and barbs formed on said arms for preventing accidental displacement of said clip.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 3rd day of November, 1921.
ROBERT GOLDEN.
