SUPPORT FORfAjCQNTAlNEBS.
Application filed September f1, 1920.v Serial V.1\lo..408,115.
' T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Jarras A. CAREY, a citizen of the United .Sta-tes, vand resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State ci' Fennsylvania, have inventedv a for Containers; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description l thereof.V
My invention relatesto a holder or sup,- port for carboys or similar vreceptacles which is designed to supportthe carboy in such manner` that the'carboy may be readily vtilted for the purpose of emptying itscontents. t Y
According to present practice carboys are usually packed in wooden crates or boxes, through the top of whichthe yneck of the bottle projects. lt is an object of the pres-- Vent invention to provide aholderpreferably adapted to engage this crate and support the carboy, the holder having trunnions for engagement with a suitable support Vwhereby the carboy maybe tilted. With a modi-tication, however, the inventionfmay be. applied to bottles orcarboys not'p'rotected by crates. It is a further object of the invention to provide a holder adjustablefor carboys oi' different sizes, inasmuch as they often vary within a 'few inches of eachother.
Myiinventi'on is illustratedin thev accompanying drawings, in Vwhich Figure l-is a perspective view showing the preferredform oit my invention. Fig.v 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the center of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a modification or" my invention. VFigli shows a perspective view of another modiiicationofthe invention.
'ln the drawings, 5 `represlflts a .-carboy paclredin a crate' or box 6, the lcrate vhaving the usual side strips?, these stripsbeing provided on practically all carbo'y boxes.
' My invention comprises end members V8 adapted to engage the under side of the strips 7, these Lend members being formed of Y portions 9 between their ends, whichdepending portions are integral therewith, as shown, or otherwise rigidly connected thereto. Se-v cured to the members 8 and also midway between the ends thereof are bosses 10 `from which project trunnions 11 having end portions 12 of larger diameter, the reduced p0rtion 11 forming the bearing surface of the trunnion. The end portions 12 form hanjdlesJloy means loitvvhich a `carboy .may be A,conveniently transported from one `place to another. Passing through the ends of the bars f8 arelremovable connecting-bolts 13 t provided with `wing nuts '11. new and useful improvement in Supports The lower ends ofthe depending portions 9 are preferably. provided with la vertical iSeries ofili'ole's'l.r iatstrip 16'Lha'ving vthreaded projections 17 forms a connection Vfor vthe, depending portions 9. Nuts 1 8 on Y Specification of Letters Patent; Patgntved -Dec 13,1921
From the "foregoingit will be seen thatthe bars 8 and the flat strip 16 form means yfor clamping and .supporting the carboy land thatj the bolts ,13 serveV as means `for drawing vthe Vbar sff together into lclamping engage.- lment .withthesides otthe containerand also serve as fside supportsj'for retaining the y.ear-

Furthermore, the end` members main- ,tain thefcontainer rigid and prevent lateral play when Athe container Vis turned topin- 'verted position.
Any y,suitable lmeans may Vbe provided fOr pivotallylsupporting the 'carboy Von the trufna nionsybut .I prefer to u sevaf, 'frame `of the Vlkind v shown in JF-ig. 1, which comprises a pair ottriangular shapedqendj sections 19 .l

Aftelt or other liner 26 may be provided 'iP-or the inner surface of the curved bars 8.
in all or" the various constructions illustrated and described herein, it will be seen 'that the center of gravity of the container is belov7 the pivot point and in vertical'aline- Vment with the pivots, so that the container normally assumes a substantially vertical position. To empty the contents of the container it may be readily tilted on thek trunnions Without danger of splashing or unexpected spiiling. rEhe support clamps the vcontainer or itscrate suiiiciently tight tol prevent the container from moving or falling out when it is tilted.
I claim as my invention:
l. A support for containers comprising horizontal end members, t-runnions on said members, depending vertical portions on said end members rigidly connected therewith and in alinement With the trunnions, said end members having a series of open- -ings therein, a cross member having means container, said cross member being adjust- `able vertically and longitudinally with relati-on to the depending portions, and a supporting meanshaving bearings' thereon for cooperating With the trunnions.
` SpA support or'containers comprising horizontalend members, trunnions on said end members, depending vertical portions on said end members formed integrally with the horizontal Vend members, bolts at each VVside of the container connecting the end members, said bolts permitting of the adjustment of said end members toward and from each other, a :traine comprising end sections, bearings on said end sections for the trunnions, adjustable means for connecting the bottoms of the end sections Vvvhereby ifi-cones the frame may be` adjusted to receive containers of varying sizes, and means on the trnnnions comprising shoulders for holding the topsl of the end sections in proper spaced relation.
1. The combination With a container carried in a protecting crate, said crate having side strips thereon, of means for pivotally supporting the container and crate comprising end members adapted to engage the sides of the crate andthe under side oi" the strips, trunnions on said end members, depending vertical portions on said end members and in alinement- With the trunnions and adapted to engage the sides of the crate, clamping rods connecting the `end members Vat each side ofthe crate, a cross member connecting the ends of the depending portions and providing a support for the'container, and means providing a bearing for the trunnions. l Y j y 5. VThe combination With avcontainer carried in a protecting crate, said crate having side strips thereon, of means for supporting the container and Ycrate comprising end members having depending portions rigidly connected thereto, said end members and depending portions being adapted to frictionally engage the sides of the crate and the side strips thereon, trunnions on said end members, clamping rods at each side of the crate for connecting the end members andrholding them in clamped relation therewith, and a supporting stand having means thereon cooperating With the trunnions.V
6. A support for containers comprising a pair ofend members adapted to be clamped to two sides of a container, rods for connecting the end members and. holding them in clamped relation, and' trunnions'carried by said end members, each of said trunnions having means thereon iorproviding a bearing portion and being extended to form handle portions beyond the bearing portions by means of which a container maybe pivotally supported ori conveniently carried after the end members have been clamped thereto, the bearing portion being formed between shoulders on the trunnion, and aa supporting sta-nd having means thereon .cooperating with the bearing portions ofthe trunnions. In testimony whereof, I, thesai'd JAMiis Cinner, have hereunto set my hand.
