G. BELL ET AL BARREL' RACK Filed Sept. 26, 1924 Patented Apr. 6, 'l
.GEORGE DEEL AND WILLIAM "Kriaxji fiALHn'nr, ifnXAfsq 'BARREL YRACK.
Application .filed September 26, 1924. Serial No. 740,088. Y.
.To all yteh-m t 'may concern: Y.
Be itv known that we, GEORGE BELL and" IVILLIAM E. KIRK, citizens'of the United States, residing atY Dalhart, in the countyof Dallam and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Barrel Rack, of which the following is a specification..U y Y This invention aims to provide a novel Vmeans whereby a barrel or other container may be suspended for pivotal movement,
so that the barrel lcan be turned, to pour out its contents. Y n i' It is an object of the invention to pro vide .novel means whereby Lthe barrel maybe held n'any position vto which it may have been swung: and, further, it is an-objeet of the invention to improve generally and toV enhance the utility of devices ofthat .sort l to which the invention appertains.
Although aV preferred form of the invention has been shown, it-will be understood.
that a mechanic, workingwithin the scope of what is claimed, may make changes and alterations without departing from the spirit of the invention. y
. In the accompanying drawings z-Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention ;l Figure `2 is an elevation wherein the struc- 3") ture is shown at right angles to the disclosure in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a top plan; Figure'i is a fragmental View disclosing parts of the supporting structure for the barrel.
In the drawings, the device is Shown as supporting a barrel whichis vertically disy posed, that it will be understood that the structure is equally well adapted to handle .the barrel the axis ofwhich is horizontal; er rlhe device comprises a pair of loopshaped supports 1 and 2, the side arms of which are provided, respectively, with flattened parts 3 and 4, crossed onl each other, as shown at 5, and connected, at tlieirpoints et' crossing, by pivot elements 6. In order to hold the supports ljand 2 at adjusted angles with respect to each other, depending upon the length of the barrel, latches 7 are `.pivoted at 8 to the side arms of the support 1, andare provided with teeth 9 vadapted to cooperate .with keepers 10, -on the -su'pport 2. Y
. In order to enable the device to be tipped up into thev position shown in Figure. 1,
along with vthe barrel, handles 11 are provided, the handles being pivoted at'12 to kextensions 14 of the parts 3 ofthe support 1. VJany suitable means may be supplied for holdingthe handles 11 rigidly" in the upstanding .positionr shown lin Figure V1y of the drawings. Thus,` sleeves 15 may be eoV mounted slidably on theha'ndles, vthe sleeves being adapted to receivethey parts 14, thev flattened portions?) of the support 1 pre# venting the sleeves 15 troml sliding down wardly out of engagement Vwith thev handlesy 11.. `When the occasion .for the use of. the Y' handles 171 has passed, the sleeves 15v maybe slid upwardly, otf'lthe parts 14,"and, then, the handles 11 may bewswung downwardly, 'n into an out of the way position, on the pivot elements 12. Theil-attened parts 3 and l kol n Y the .supports 1 and 2, respectively, are
equipped with cooperating notches'fl deimng a bearing opening.
by curvedtightening bolts 20 provided lwith is to be drained, may be held securely for swinging movement about a Vhorizontal axis.l l clamp are supplied with shafts22 mounted to rock, in the bearing openings afforded by the notches 16. LOne'. of 4the shafts, 22 is (equipped withan arm 23 having a latch Having thus described the invention, what Y v1s claimed 1s Ina device of the class described, loopshaped supports disposed at an angle to each other, the supports comprising side arms which are pivotally connected, means for mounting a. container on the supports for swinging movement, means for holding the supports adjustably at di'erent angles with respect to each other thereby to ada-pt the device to containers of different` heights, the lower ends of the supports being'free, to permit the supports to be adjusted angularly An'arcuate raclr 17 is secured to the part 3 of the support 1.v
' The clamp forholding the barrel, 'com-V prises base members 18, in the -form of plates, having outstanding'ears 19 connected *80 1 nuts 21, adapted to engage the ears 19, the
` construction being such that a barrel which j f The base members 18 ofthe barrel with respect to each other, a handle pivoted be tilted, as aforesaid, with the lowei1 end to one arm of one support, whereby the ot either support as a uleruin. handle may be swung downwardly into an In testimony that we claim the foregoing 10 Vout-o-the wa osition when not in use and as our own we have heieto alixed our sienameans for holding the handle in approxitures. mate alinement with said arm, the lhandle GEORGE BELL. constituting means whereby the device may WILLIAM E.
